Freshman Karis Jochen's 19th-place finish at the Class 5A Region II cross country meet led A&M Consolidated to fifth place in the team race at Arlington's Vandergriff Park on Saturday. Jochen ran 12:09.81 over the 3,200 meters.

Consol had three more runners in the Top 30 -- Chaiss Matthews (12:15.17) was 24th; Jordan Bettiol (12:16.08) was 25th; and senior Sally Hays (12:17.02) finished 28th. Amy Bringaman (12:24.37), Kristen Bettiol (12:25.67) and Katy Williams (12:43.74) completed the Lady Tigers' contingent.

In the boys race, Consol senior Stephen Case finished 31st at 15:59.99. Travis Bohne was 40th in 16:11.96 as the Consol boys placed seventh. Sophomore Patrick Alexshonis ran 16:39.33. David Mora-Boellstorff (16:46.19), Leonel Drukker (16:51.54), Josh Herrington (17:36.12) and Brent Winemiller (17:55.23) rounded out the Tigers' times.

At the 4A Region IV meet in Humble, Brenham junior Will Antkowiak won the championship in 15:19.7, while the Cubs placed fifth in the team race behind champion Friendswood.

Brenham senior Celeste Garcia ran 12:17.8 to finish 14th, and the Cubettes' sophomore Elizabeth Kamenicky was 19th in 12:24.1

Cameron had three Top 10 finishers in the 3A Region III girls race. Sophomore Alisia Pena ran 12:05.3 for fourth place. Martha Bustamante was fifth in 12:06.8, and fellow junior Madison Pevehouse finished eight in a time of 12:13.5.

Rudder sophomore Shelby Christen placed 26th in 12:54.3. Caldwell's top runner was sophomore Casey Brinkman, who ran 12:42.4 for 20th.

Caldwell was 12th and Rudder 16th in the girls' team race.

Cameron's Victor Canizales (16:53.4) was eighth, and teammate Norman Lanford (17:19.8) took 16th in the boys race. Rockdale's Jacob Gerren ran 18:01.0 for 34th.

Callie Padgett placed fourth in 12:37.0 at the 2A Region III meet in Humble. Jon Croston of Franklin was 10th in the boys race, running 17:26.8 to qualify for state. The Lions finished seventh as a team.
