Consol's Hanks fourth at state meet

ALDINE - A&M Consolidated senior Clayton Hanks took fourth place in his weight class at the Texas High School Powerlifting Association State Meet last weekend.

Consol senior Mason Cashion finished 12th in his division.

Hanks, competing in the 198-pound class, set school records by lifting 610 pounds in the deadlift and a total of 1,470 pounds in three events. Hanks lifted 530 pounds in the squat and 330 on the bench press.

A linebacker on the Consol football team, Hanks has signed to play college football at Winona State in Minnesota.

Cashion competed in the 220-pound division. He lifted a total of 1,395 pounds, with 540 in the squat, 330 in the bench press and 525 in

the deadlift.

Hanks posted the highest finish at the state meet in school history. The only other Consol lifter to qualify for the state meet was Andrew Collins in 2005.


Navasota's Sanders wins state title in powerlifting: Navasota's Jared Sanders won the state powerlifting meet in the 132-pound weight division Saturday. Sanders has not lost a meet since the 2005 regional

meet.

Chris Acosta placed fourth in the 275-pound-and-up division. Acosta lifted 595 pounds on his final deadlift to solidify fourth place. Acosta's previous best was 550 in the dead lift.

Together, Sanders and Acosta placed fifth in the overall team standings. <
