KILLEEN -- The Bryan wrestling team captured its second consecutive District 25 championship Saturday, qualifying 10 boys for next weekend's regional tournament.

The Vikings scored 272.5 points for a solid victory over second-place Killeen Ellison, which had 225 points in the meet at Killeen High School. Killeen Shoemaker finished third at 199.

A&M Consolidated took fourth place among the seven teams, scoring 135 points.

The Vikings have swept all six district dual matches in the regular season and won the district meet for the last two years.

The top two finishers in each weight class qualified for the regional meet that will be held at the Blossom Athletic Center in San Antonio on Friday and Saturday. Third-place finishers will be alternates for regionals, getting a spot in the tournament if a qualifier cannot compete.

Seven Vikings won both of their matches Saturday to claim district titles, with 103-pounder Logan Meekma, Javier Aguilar (125) and David Orozco (145) all registering two pins. Bryan's other district champions are Victor Thomas (119), Kevin White (130), Alex Aguilar (140) and Zach Hiney (189).

Bryan's Jorge Gonzalez (135), Thomas Forster (160) and Omar Aguilar (171) all reached the finals, finishing second and qualifying for regionals.

The Vikings' alternates are Tracey Hodges (152), Fred Blackshear (215) and Jacob Taylor (heavyweight). Bryan's Gabriel Jimenez (112) finished fourth.

"With the injuries and sickness and ineligibility we've had, it's been an up-and-down season," Bryan coach Mike Zito said. "To finish with a 50-point spread over the second-place team is pretty impressive.

"Victor Thomas was probably one of my biggest shining lights. He's a freshman who started wrestling for me back in October, and he's district champion. There were a lot of first-time guys in our varsity lineup."
