Three players from Normangee's state qualifer earned first-team recognition on the Texas Sports Writers Association all-state volleyball team in Class A, leading the way among Brazos Valley squads.

The Lady Panthers' Hilaree Hodges, Bayleigh Biddle and Leah Munsey led a big contingent of Normangee players selected to the all-state teams, which were chosen by TSWA members. Normangee's Jill Riley made the second team in Class A, and Samantha Corgey was on the third team along with Iola's Ashley Brown.

Brenham senior Bethany Yeager, who led the Cubettes to the state final, earned a spot on the first team in Class 4A. The other Brazos Valley player to make first team was Caldwell's Melissa Cumby in 3A.

None of the players from A&M Consolidated's regional semifinalist team made the Class 5A teams.

Normangee reached the state tournament for the first time, losing in the semifinal round to eventual champion Louise. Hodges, a senior outside hitter, averaged 17 kills per match for the Lady Panthers. Biddle, a sophomore outside hitter, was the newcomer of the year in District 22-A. Junior libero Munsey contributed 15 digs per match.

Riley and Brown were chosen at middle blocker, while Corgey was at setter.

Yeager, a senior outside hitter who made The Eagle's All-Brazos Valley first team for three consecutive years, claimed a spot on the TSWA first team in 4A after leading the Cubettes with 337 kills and 803 digs. Brenham junior middle blocker Caroline Young made the second team, while junior outside hitter Scout Brooks was on the third team.

Cumby, a senior outside hitter, helped the Lady Hornets return to the state tournament with 130 kills and 160 digs. Caldwell setter Allison Alford, a sophomore with 700 assists, made the second team in 3A. Junior middle blocker Sondra Flippin, a first-team all-Brazos Valley choice, landed on the third team.

Junior outside hitter Lexi Standley of Madisonville received honorable mention in 3A. Rockdale's Crystal Callas also received honorable mention.

Leon placed three on the Class 2A list. Libero Sharon Coulter, a junior, made the second team. Sophomore middle blocker Allison Carrigan was on the third team, while sophomore setter Chelby Stanford earned honorable mention.
