VOLLEYBALL

Bryan goes 2-1 at Westwood tourney: ROUND ROCK -- The Bryan volleyball team won two of three matches on the opening day of the Round Rock Westwood tournament Thursday.

The Lady Vikings won their first two matches, beating Austin Akins 25-11, 25-15 and Caldwell 25-12, 25-8. New Braunfels then beat Bryan 24-26, 25-19, 25-15.

Bryan, 3-1, will play Allen at 9 a.m. Friday in the tournament.

Tiffany Regmund powered the Lady Viking attack with 20 kills. Kaylee Piatt had 49 assists, including 19 against New Braunfels. She also had five kills against Akins. Reagan Boenker had five kills in the first match, and six kills and 10 digs against New Braunfels. Jordan Cumpton added nine digs against Caldwell and 11 against New Braunfels, while Brittney Jones had six kills in the third match.

St. Joseph defeats Allen Academy: The St. Joseph Lady Eagles defeated Allen Academy in their volleyball season opener Thursday 26-24, 25-18, 25-22.

Chelsey Watt had seven kills for St. Joseph. Dione Simmons had three kills and two service aces, while Kelsey Dillard added two kills. Annalisse Fontana had a strong serve performance in the middle game.
