SAN MARCOS -- Brenham will attempt to become the first volleyball team from the Brazos Valley to capture a state championship since 2002 when the Cubettes play Canyon Randall at 3 p.m. Saturday.
The Cubettes (41-6) qualified for the first state championship match in program history by sweeping top-ranked Richardson Pearce in the Class 4A semifinal round Thursday night.
Second-ranked Canyon Randall (41-1) lost the opening game but rallied to beat Seguin in four games.
Both teams are making their second state tournament appearances. Brenham lost in the 2005 semifinals and Randall fell in the 2007 semifinals.
The last BV volleyball team to win state was Class 2A Leon seven years ago.
