Caldwell advances to area round: WALLER -- The Caldwell Lady Hornets beat Wharton 25-16, 24-26, 25-18, 25-19 in the Class 3A bi-district round of the playoffs Tuesday.

Elliot Laferriere led Caldwell (27-11) with 14 kills and five aces. April Howell had 13 kills and a team-high 25 digs. Kim Crnkovic added 11 kills, and Melanie Armstrong had 16 digs. Kelsey Alford dished out 41 assists.

Caldwell will face District 22-3A winner Tarkington at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at a site to be determined. Tarkington had a first-round bye.

Anderson-Shiro beats Milano 3-1 in bi-district: Milano won Game 1, but Anderson-Shiro rallied for a 23-25, 25-10, 25-21, 25-20 victory in the bi-district round of the Class A volleyball playoffs Tuesday night.

Kayla Fialkovic and Megan Moody each had 17 kills for Anderson (24-9). Fialkovic also had nine digs, three blocks and two aces. Moody served three aces and had one block and eight digs. Setter Holly Brandt had 27 assists and led Anderson's defense with 15 digs.

Anderson will play Flatonia in the area round at a time and site to be determined. Flatonia won District 27-A and had a first-round bye.
