The first family of Brenham volleyball will leave a lasting mark on The Eagle's 12th Annual All-Brazos Valley Volleyball Team.

Cubettes senior outside hitter Bethany Yeager made the first team for the third consecutive year, joining Bryan's Kallie Pence and Milano's Rebekah Melton as the only players to achieve that triple in All-BV history. Brenham coach Debbie Yeager also was chosen by her peers as the BV Coach of the Year, marking the first time a first-team player's parent earned that honor.

Brenham reached the Class 4A championship match and was the last area team playing in what was another strong year for volleyball in the Brazos Valley. The All-BV first team includes two other players who reached the state tournament, Sondra Flippin of Caldwell and Hilaree Hodges of Normangee.

A&M Consolidated, a Top 10 team and regional qualifier in Class 5A, was the only squad to put two players on the first unit, with seniors Shelby Dickson and Kelsey Kinley making the team.

Dickson and Yeager are the only repeat selections on the first team this year.

Setter Kaylee Piatt represents Bryan on the top team.

Two senior middle blockers landed on the first team, LeeAnne Jones of Centerville and Alysha Rogers of Franklin.

Bethany Yeager also made the all-academic first team for the second consecutive year. That list of scholar-athletes is highlighted by four players ranked No. 1 in their class: Leon's Allison Carrigan, Lexington's Ashton Johnston, Caldwell's Taylor Noack and Normangee's Jill Riley. The academic first team includes Wanetia Adams of Cameron, Kelsey Lagrone of Centerville, Leanne Osborne of Brazos Christian, Sara Swetish of St. Joseph and Tori Wisnoski of Anderson-Shiro.

Players were nominated by their coaches and chosen by members of The Eagle sports staff.

Debbie Yeager was the overwhelming choice of her peers in the vote for Coach of the Year. It is the second consecutive season in which the coaches' pick made history. Last year, Caldwell's Jane Anne Giese became the first former All-BV player to earn the coaching honor.

Another member of the Yeager family earned All-BV recognition three years ago. Amanda Yeager was the second-team setter in 2006, when her younger sister Bethany made the honorable mention list as a freshman.

Bethany Yeager will play libero at the University of Iowa and is considered one of the top players at that position in the state by college coaches. She played out of position as an undersized outside hitter for the Cubettes, delivering 337 kills and 803 digs.

Dickson is back on the first team after helping Consol return to the regional semifinals. The outside hitter shared Most Valuable Player honors in District 12-5A after collecting 59 kills and 60 digs in league play. Kinley made the squad as libero after topping the Lady Tigers in digs, including 162 in district.

Piatt led a young Bryan team to the state playoffs, overcoming a broken hand late in the season. The Lamar signee dished out 7.9 assists per game.

Flippin is the only junior on the first team. The 6-foot-2 middle blocker recorded 345 kills and 70 blocks while earning MVP honors in 24-3A. State qualifier Hodges played outside hitter for Normangee and was co-MVP in 22-A after producing 17 kills and seven digs per match.

Rogers and Jones both were named Most Valuable Player in their districts. Rogers posted 412 kills, 137 blocks and 357 digs for Franklin. Jones continued Centerville's tradition of first-team picks after finishing with 541 kills and 168 blocks.

This year's All-BV second team features three local players: Consol's Karla Gilbert, Bryan's Tiffany Regmund and Rudder's Brooke Engel. Other members of the second team are Allison Alford of Caldwell, Allison Carrigan of Leon, Mollie Martinez of Iola, Maeson Mondrick of Cameron and Caroline Young of Brenham.

The Eagle's second team includes a handful of players who will have a chance to move into the top group next season. Mondrick, Engel, Carrigan and Alford are sophomores. Young and Martinez are juniors.

Local players on the third team are Consol middle blocker Erika Arthur and Brazos Christian outside hitter Osborne, both juniors. They are joined on the team by Scout Brooks of Brenham, Raimey Griffin of Centerville, Jordan Hitchcock of Anderson-Shiro, Leah Munsey of Normangee, Janie Neyland of Franklin and Chelby Stanford of Leon.
