Brenham's Antkowiak takes gold in 1,600, 3,200: HUNTSVILLE -- Brenham's Will Antkowiak won the 1,600 meters, giving him gold medals in the two distance races at the Class 4A Region III track meet Tuesday at Sam Houston State's Bowers Stadium.

Antkowiak won the 3,200 on Monday night, then ran a 4:14.84 to win the 1,600 on Tuesday afternoon.

Brenham finished fourth in the boys team race with 44 points.

Lexington's Hutson set for state title defense: CONVERSE -- Lexington's Clint Hutson won the 110-meter hurdles in 15.07 seconds at the Class 2A Region IV meet Monday.

The defending 2A state champion in the event will get a chance to defend his title at the UIL Track & Field Championships.

Julien Clark earned Lexington's first medal of the day, a gold in the high jump by clearing 6 foot, 4 inches. Clark was sixth at last season's state meet.

The Lexington 400 relay team of Tevin Lovings, Hutson, Dylan Iselt and Gabriel Wright ran 43.55 to finish fourth.

Snook's Barnes, Somerville's relay team qualify twice for state: HUNTSVILLE -- Snook's Shakera Barnes won two gold medals for the Lady Jays on Tuesday at the Class A Region IV meet at Bowers Stadium.

Barnes won the 400 meters in 58.48, then won the 200 in 25.84. She also ran a leg on Snook's 1,600 relay team that took sixth.

The Somerville boys team qualified two relay teams for state. The Yeguas' 400 relay team ran a 43.65 to finish second behind Mart (43.53). Then Somerville's 800 relay team ran a 1:30.80 for second behind Chilton's 1:30.23.

Somerville nearly made it a qualifying sweep in the relays. The Yeguas took the bronze medal in the 1,600 relay with their time of 3:31.14. Somerville scored 54 points, good enough for second place in the boys team race behind Lovelady (62).

Bremond's Johnathon White will return to the state meet in the 800 but fell short of winning the regional championship. The defending state champion ran 1:57.21 to take the silver medal behind Logan Foster of Elkhart Slocum (1:57.06). White's twin brother, Jacob, finished third in 2:00.45.

Dime Box sprinter Tori Moore finished third in the 100, running 12.82. Bremond's 800 relay team of Alexis Kinney, Shantel Anderson, Bill-Reshiea Williams and Rickelle Williams was fifth in 1:50.22.

Round Top-Carmine's Laurie Byrd added the 1,600 title to her Monday victory in the 3,200, finishing in 5:14.89.
