College Station’s Jay Payton scored 19 points as the Cougars defeated Waco La Vega 76-60.The Cougars only held a 33-30 lead at halftime but outscored the Pirates by 13 in the second half to improve their record to 2-0.

 Miesha McAllister and Tori Carraway scored 16 points each in the A&M Consolidated Lady Tigers 61-45 victory over Magnolia. McAllister had five assists to go along with her 16 points. AJ Starks had 7 points and 9 rebounds and Tamara McIntosh had 11 points The Consol freshman team beat Magnolia 62-21.

Locals Johansen, Jones sign with colleges

Senior swimmers Laine Johansen of A&M Consolidated and Harrison Jones of Bryan, who both qualified for the state meet last season, have signed with colleges during the early signing period.

Local swimmer competes in two major masters events

Local masters swimmer Leslie Schueckler competed in the FINA World Masters Championships and the U.S. Masters Swimming Summer Nationals earlier this month. Both events used long courses (50 meters).

Locals earn trophies at Texas Water Safari

Wade Binion and Mollie Binion were winners in the 52nd Texas Water Safari on June 14, while Peter Binion took second in the 260-mile canoe race billed as the “World’s Toughest Boat Race.”
