Bryan United scored in all but one inning and kept Bryan Harvey off the scoreboard for all but one frame as United took an 8-3 victory in the Major Girls softball playoffs Tuesday night.

United earned a spot in the District 33 championship round for 11- and 12-year-old girls with the win at Harvey's Weedon Ballpark. United, a new league formed by combining Bryan West and Bryan North, will have a chance to earn a spot in the Section 1 tournament when it plays for the district title at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Harvey took its first loss of the double-elimination tournament and will play at 7 p.m. Wednesday against Hearne or Madisonville for another shot at United.

The winners' bracket final of the four-team tourney saw United score the first six runs on a pleasant evening blessed by cloudy skies and a refreshing breeze. The visitors took charge with four runs in the second inning, when Audriana Andrade had an RBI double and scored. Alexis Enriquez capped the uprising with a run-scoring single that was one of her three hits on the night.

United leadoff hitter Chandon Morris started the game with a double and scored on a single by Enriquez in the first inning. The speedy Morris added infield singles in the second and third frames, scoring in the second and driving in a run that made it 6-0 in the third.

Harvey fought back with three runs in the bottom of the third. Miranda Ponzio, Hannah Eike, Allie Browning and Michaela Cheyne delivered hits during the rally, but those were the only hits of the game for the home team.

United pitcher Stephanie Easter ran into little trouble during the other five innings. Easter stranded runners at second and third with a strikeout to end the first inning and she finished in style, retiring the last 10 batters. She posted five strikeouts with two walks during an efficient 80-pitch outing.

Morris and Enriquez combined to go 6 for 7 and reached base eight times. The only time Harvey managed to retire either hitter came in the fifth, when left fielder Alaysha Ronding made a nice catch on a fly ball by Enriquez.

Rebecca Delgado collected two hits for United, which also got hits from Alissa Reyes and Melanie Savala.

Both teams turned in fine defensive plays. The United defense was led by catcher Andrade and third baseman Enriquez.

Center fielder Emily Hubacek produced two impressive catches for Harvey, including the top play of the night when she charged in for a shoe-top grab to take a hit away from Reyes. Harvey also got good glove work from shortstop Rosemary Fazzino, second baseman Eike, catcher Nikki Smith and pitcher Browning.
