The popping of nearby fireworks was drowned out by booming Bryan United bats Saturday night as United took the District 33 championship for Major Girls with a 13-3 victory over Bryan Harvey.

United, the league formed by the merger of West and North, went unbeaten in three games to win the tournament for 11- and 12-year-olds at Weedon Ballpark.

The district title sends United into the Section 1 Tournament, which will begin at Weedon Ballpark on July 17.

Harvey went 2-2 in the tourney, with both losses to United.

A three-run bottom of the first gave Harvey its only lead in either game against United, but the visitors pulled even in the second and pounded out 10 runs over the next three innings to end the game via the 10-run rule.

United took the lead with three runs in the third and then exploded for six in the fifth, punctuating both rallies with long hits. Stephanie Easter delivered doubles in both innings, and the six-run outburst included a well-struck double by Desiray Sauseda and a triple to the fence by Melanie Savala.

The visitors finished with 12 hits, getting two apiece from Lauren Galvan, Alexis Enriquez, Audriana Andrade, Sauseda and Easter. Enriquez and Andrade drove in two runs apiece, while Galvan scored three times.

Harvey collected two of its three hits in the first inning, capitalizing on singles by Rosemary Fazzino and Ashley Lopez. Michaela Cheyne drove in a run with a groundout as Harvey took a 3-2 lead.

The other Harvey hit came from Hannah Eike in the third, but United second baseman Chandon Morris snagged a liner off the bat of Allie Browning and doubled the runner off first base.

United pitcher Easter worked her second consecutive complete game. The right-hander faced only three batters in each of the last four innings and retired 12 of the last 13 batters she faced.

Harvey's batters were able to make contact, striking out only once, but almost everything they hit went to the right side of the United infield where first baseman Galvan and Morris were very solid.

First baseman Rachel Ullmann made five unassisted putouts, including one when she dove to her knees to rob Rebecca Delgado of a hit, to lead the Harvey defense. Harvey also got good glove work from third baseman Miranda Ponzio, catcher Nikki Smith and pitcher Browning.
