All good things must come to an end.

For the Franklin-Bremond 9- and 10-year-old girls softball team, the playoff run finally finished Wednesday night. La Grange beat Franklin-Bremond 8-5 at Henderson Park in the Little League Section 1 championship, sending La Grange to the state tournament and Franklin-Bremond home for the summer.

La Grange will play in the Texas East state tournament beginning on July 19 in Seguin.

The three-run base hit was both a friend and an enemy for Franklin-Bremond in the championship.

With one out in the second inning, Franklin-Bremond shortstop Meagan McCarver and second baseman Alyssa Bienski took back-to-back walks to put a runner in scoring position. Courtney Johnson then hit a line drive over second base to drive in both runners, and Johnson rounded the bases and scored on the play when La Grange had trouble trying to throw her out. The three-run hit tied the game at 5.

La Grange answered with a three-run hit of its own in the fifth inning.

Two La Grange batters reached on a single and an error with one out. Franklin-Bremond starting pitcher Chloe Brignac induced La Grange's Brenna Beseda to pop-up to the catcher for the second out, but Hannah Gerecke hit the second pitch she saw on a line to right field. The ball got through the outfield and rolled to the wall, allowing all three runners to score.

Brignac held La Grange scoreless in four of her six innings pitched, striking out six while walking four. All eight of the runs scored off her were unearned.

At the plate, Brignac reached base three times, going 2 for 3 with a walk and an RBI. First baseman Emma Wilson reached base on all three trips to the plate and hit the game's only double, while Bienski and Johnson each scored two runs apiece.

Bienski played a solid game in the field, making multiple plays on hard hit grounders and catching a pop up in the third. First baseman Wilson also made a couple nice grabs, starting off the game by catching a hard line drive for the game's first out.
