The Bryan Lady Vikings' playoff challenge is doubled.

Seeking the first bi-district soccer victory in program history, Bryan will try to do it on the home field of its opponent, Tyler Lee (18-2-2), where the Lady Raiders are unbeaten this year (10-0-1). Via coin toss, the 11-5A champions won the right to host the Lady Vikings (16-8-2) at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

A&M Consolidated, fresh off an overtime loss in the season finale against 12-5A winner Belton, meets North Mesquite at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Waco ISD Stadium.

Tyler Lee's Ashley Jones, a a three-time All-East Texas senior forward who has signed to play at TCU, leads a strong 1-2 punch for the Lady Raiders. The team's other co-captain, midfielder Johna Germany, leads Lee in assists for the fourth consecutive season and is second to Jones in goals scored. Germany will play college soccer at McNeese State.

"They've been starting since they were freshmen and they have gotten better every year," said Lee coach Chris Woodard, who has 15 district titles in 17 years at Lee and is also the men's and women's coach at Lon Morris College. "This year, they are more mature and stronger and both have had good years."

Jones scored five goals in Lee's 9-0 win over Tyler John Tyler in the regular-season finale.

"Jones and Germany are a very explosive combination that plays very well together," Bryan coach Amy Pettibone said. "Hopefully, it takes more than two players to beat us and we have almost everybody back that was hurt.

"Jones is so speedy, you need to limit the number of balls that get to her cleanly. She a true forward that can look and turn and has a great first touch. She's the real deal. She's kind of tiny but she's speedy."

Pettibone scouted Lee in its win over Tyler John Tyler and was also impressed with senior Katy McCarty. The Lady Raiders remind Pettibone of Consol, and Bryan will use an approach similar to the one it used against the Lady Tigers.

Dani Fellows leads Bryan with 13 goals and 11 assists, but this is a Lady Vikings team with a balanced offensive attack. Brittany Little and Taylor Erickson each have nine goals and five assists.

"I haven't seen them play, but their district has some pretty good teams every year with Belton and A&M [Consolidated]," Woodard said. "Bryan competed with them, evidently. They have a good team with a good coach. She's been coaching awhile and we're expecting a solid team to line up against us."

Bryan will be the underdog, but Pettibone just needed to point out the NCAA basketball tournament to remind her team that an underdog role does not mean that you will lose.

"I'll tell them to be the Northern Iowa [which upset No.1 Kansas in the tournament]," Pettibone said. "On any day, you can step up and win if you play well."

The teams met at a rain-soaked Palestine Wildcat Stadium last season, and Tyler Lee won 2-0. No rain is forecast for Tyler on Tuesday.

As for Consol's opponent, North Mesquite, it finished 5-5 in 11-5A to take third place, but the Lady Stallions were 0-8-1 away from home. North Mesquite's last win was a 3-0 victory over DeSoto. The Stallions got their goals from senior Lauren Mead and sophomores Victoria Little and Julia Herrera.

They will face a Consol team that got a playoff-like test in a 1-0 overtime loss to Belton on Friday at Tigerland Stadium.

The Lady Tigers won last season's bi-district meeting with North Mesquite, 3-1, but much has changed since that match. Kim Fullerton is the new North Mesquite coach and has taken over a young roster, which lists only three seniors. It also lists eight sophomores and three freshmen.

Both teams will encounter a familiar situation, playing on an artificial turf similar to their home fields.

"We had to win to be district champions, so we played aggressively," coach Stoney Pryor said of his Lady Tigers' loss to Belton. "It was a great warm-up game. It would have been greater to beat Belton, but we got 100 minutes of quality soccer."

The only downside of that tuneup was an injury sustained by one of Pryor's players.

"Katy Turner got dinged up," Pryor said. "It was a 50-50 ball and she and the goalie collided."

Senior Emily Smith, who has scored 20 goals, leads Consol. Kaytlin Berlund has 11.

The Lady Tigers have also been solid in goal, with senior Megan Eikenhorst and sophomore Christina Salas sharing time there.

"Megan played the whole game versus Belton and made a couple of unbelievable saves," Pryor said. "Christina had a couple of great saves against Bryan."

Morgan Anderson and Smith each have six assists to lead the team. Turner and Vicky Wilhelm each have five, and that's the kind of balance Pryor likes.

"You'd like to think they are all superstars, but they're all in it together," Pryor said. "If one is a little off, there are a lot of players willing to step in."
