Aggies win bass tournament: NATCHITOCHES, La. -- Texas A&M Bass Fishing club members Andrew Shafer and Paul Manley won the National Guard FLW College Fishing Texas Regional Championship title on Nov. 16.
The duo sat in fifth place after the first two rounds with a total of 13 pounds, 5 ounces. On Day 3, they brought in the tournament's heaviest catch at 17-2 to win. They have qualified for the national tournament in Knoxville, Tenn., in April.

Local swimmers win Jesse Coon Invitational Swim Meet: The Masters of Brazos Swim Team won the Jesse Coon Invitational Swim Meet on Nov. 21 at Aerofit Health & Fitness Center.
Women's overall high point winners were: Wendy Perkins (35-39 age group), Sheen Scott (40-44), Leslie Schueckler (45-49), Bonnie Coffman (55-59), Judy Wagner (60-64) and Val Lueken (65-69). Taking second place in their respective age divisions were Brittany Curry (18-24), Cynthia Palomares (50-54), Sue Bloomfield (55-59), Jane Cobos (60-64) and Cynthia Perkins (65-69).
Les Bender won the men's 50-54 age division, while Mark Coffman took second and Rodney Bailey took third in the 55-59 age group.
The MOB won all seven of the relays it entered. Relay members for the women's 45-54 age group were: Peggy Zapalac, Vicki Reim, Sheen Scott and Cynthia Palomares. The group won the 400-yard medley, 400 freestyle, 800 freestyle and 200 medley relays. Relay members for the women's 55-64 age group -- Estelle Hanson, Jane Cobos, Val Lueken and Judy Wagner -- won the 400 freestyle, 800 freestyle and freestyle relays.
RESULTS
Aggie Swim Club swimmers win 24 individual events: MAGNOLIA -- Aggie Swim Club swimmers competed at Magnolia Aquatic Club's short course swim meet on Nov. 6-8.
Karly Waguespack won four individual events, and Joshua Duewall won three events. Joel Coppernoll, Tobias Doerr-Garcia, Marco Gutierrez, Pegga Mosavi, Travis Rooney and Will Smith each won two events, and Matthew Rusk, Mati Castro, Danielle Scott, Gabriel Vidaurre and Ryan Zapalac each won one.
The 9-10 boys 200-yard freestyle relay team of Doerr-Garcia, Duewall, Rusk and Coppernoll won and the team of Peter Simmons, Doerr-Garcia, Duewall and Coppernoll won the 200 medley relay. In the 11-12 girls age group, the team of Meredith Spillane, Danielle Scott, Antara Dattagupta and Waguespack won the 200 freestyle relay.
Doerr-Garcia also reached a TAGS time in the 10& under 100 breaststroke and Gutierrez qualified for TAGS in the 11-year old 100 butterfly.

Aggie Swim Club swimmers help Gulf Swimming win All Star Challenge meet: SOUTHLAKE -- Six Aggie Swim Club swimmers represented Gulf Swimming at the All Star Challenge Meet on Nov. 14-15. Gulf Swimming swimmers scored 6,365 points to win the Texas Swimming Association event.
Harrison Jones won all six of his events in the 13-year old boys division and Matthew Bitara won three of his events in the 14-year old boys division. Bitara and Jones also set four new team records for the 13-14 boys. Bitara set records in the 200-yard freestyle, 200 backstroke and 100 butterfly and Jones set a record in the 200 butterfly. Bitara reached a sectionals time standard with his time of 53.62 seconds in the 100 butterfly.
