A&M student competes at Archery World Cup: ANTALYA, Turkey -- A&M student and two-time Olympian Jennifer Nichols earned a bronze with the recurve womens team at the Archery World Cup in Antalya, Turkey on June 8-12.

Nichols also combined with Brady Ellison to take silver in the recurve mixed team competition. The duo set a new FITA World Record for mixed team competition when they knocked off Russia, 152-140, in the semifinal round.

At the first World Cup in Croatia earlier this year, Nichols and Ellison won the first gold in recurve mixed team competition by defeating China.

Schueckler wins three events at masters swim meet: SUGAR LAND -- Leslie Schueckler won three events and took second in another at the First Colony Master Swim Meet on June 12. Schueckler competes with Brazos Splash Masters in the women's 55-59 age group.

Schueckler won the 100-meter breaststroke (1:56.0), the 200 breaststroke (4:15.0) and the 50 butterfly (47.57). She took second in the 50 freestyle (41.34).

At the Swim Belton Masters Swim Meet on June 19, Schueckler competed in the women's 50-54 age group, winning the 200-yard breaststroke (3:48.0) and the 50 butterfly (43.11). She also took second in the 100 breaststroke (1:49.0), 100 individual medley (1:38.0) and 50 freestyle, (36.37).

Junior golfer wins Texas/Oklahoma title: WICHITA FALLS -- College Station's Max Miller posted a 73-74-70--217 to win the boys 12-13 division of the Texas/Oklahoma Junior Golf Tournament at The Champions Course at Weeks Park in Wichita Falls.

Miller trailed by four shots after two rounds, but fired a tournament-best 70 in his age division to take the championship by one stroke.

Ellison qualifies for national meet: NEW ORLEANS -- Re'Jana Ellison of Hearne set the regional long jump record by leaping 18 feet, 7.5 inches at the National Regional Track Qualifying meet held in New Orleans. Ellison also placed second in the 100- and 200-meter events and ran the anchor leg on the 400 relay team which also placed second.

The National Junior Olympic games will be held in Hampton Roads, Va., the first week of August.

Johnson chosen for USA Baseball 14U team: Ryan Johnson of College Station is one of 40 13- and 14-year old baseball players from around the United States to qualify for the USA Baseball 14U trials at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C. Johnson will be competing July 13-17 at the NTC for a chance to represent the U.S. in international competition in Managua, Nicaragua in late July and August.

Wrath takes fourth at qualifying tournament: KATY -- The Central Texas Wrath won four games in a row before losing in bracket play to place second in their pool and fourth out of 20 teams in the Prime Time Katy qualifying tournament on May 15-16. The finish qualified the team for the Prime Time Nationals in Dallas.

Team members are: Rejhia Dickey, Micayla Gooden, Callie Eddens, Madison Becker, Amanda Gooch, Cierra Thomas, Tierra Tucker, Morgan Smith, Elizabeth Hailey and Hannah Dailey. The team is coached by Doug Becker and Jason Gooch.

BASEBALL

Local team looking for new players: The Brazos Valley Roadrunners, a 13 and under select baseball team, is looking to recruit players for the 2010-2011 tournament season.

Players should have been born between May 1, 1997 and April 30, 1998.

BASKETBALL

Consol holding basketball camps: The Tiger Elite Basketball Camps will be July 19-22 at A&M Consolidated High School.

Camp for incoming sixth- through eighth-grade girls is from 9 to 11 a.m. and costs $60. Incoming ninth graders will work out from noon to 2:30 p.m. Cost is $70.

GOLF

Buccaneer Lettermen holding golf tournament: BRENHAM -- The Buccaneer Alumni Lettermen Association is holding its annual golf tournament on Aug. 14 at the Brenham Country Club. Proceeds will benefit the Blinn College athletics program.

The entry fee for the 18-hole, four-person modified scramble is $400 per team or $100 per player. The tournmanet will begin at 1 p.m. Deadline for entries is Aug. 8. An entry form is available on line at www.blinn.edu/Buccaneer/athletics/Alumni/index.htm.

Tournament sponsorships and hole sponsorships are also available.

HOCKEY

Arctic Wolf offering hockey lessons: Arctic Wolf Ice Center's Wolf Pack Hockey School is offering skating and hockey lessons through the summer for children of all ages and skill levels.

Lessons are offered every Sunday and Monday night. Programs include Mighty Mites for children age 3-7, Cub 1-3 for beginners over 7 and Wolf 1-2 for more advanced players.

Classes are 30 to 45 minutes long and provide instruction on basic skating skills as well as stick and puck handling. Program costs range from $135-175 for eight weeks of instruction. Equipment such as helmet, stick and pads are available for rent.

SOFTBALL

State tournament needs scorekeepers: The College Station Parks and Recreation department is hosting the ASA Class C State Tournament and the ASA 16U National Softball Tournament in August and needs experienced scorekeepers.

Applicants must have knowledge of both fast pitch and slow pitch rules. Scorekeepers are paid $11 per game.

VOLLEYBALL

A&M holding volleyball camp: Registration continues for the Texas A&M volleyball camp. Applications and online registration are available at AggieAthletics.com/camps/w-volley-camp.html.

For players entering grades nine through 12, an Advanced Camp is being held on July 17-20 and a Team Camp is July 22-24.
