Consol girls to play for district title: The A&M Consolidated girls soccer team will have a chance for its first outright district championship since 2003 when the Lady Tigers host District 12-5A leader Belton to conclude the regular season at 7 p.m. Friday.
Consol (16-5-2, 11-0-2) dropped half a game behind Belton (19-3-2, 12-0-1) when the Lady Tigers tied with Bryan.
The Lady Tigers also played Belton to a 1-1 draw on the road in the first round of league play.
Belton has won the district title five consecutive years, with Consol finishing second each season. Belton could finish first again with a tie Friday, while Consol needs a victory to claim the championship.
"Obviously winning district is a huge thing, and it's been kind of elusive the last few years," Consol coach Stoney Pryor said. "Hopefully it's a great, competitive match to gear both teams up for what we would hope to be long playoff runs for both of us."
Consol and Belton have clinched playoff berths along with fourth-place Bryan (15-8-2, 7-5-1), which will host Harker Heights (5-11-1, 4-8-1) at 7 p.m. Friday.
The 12-5A champion will face 11-5A's fourth-place Mesquite in the bi-district round of the playoffs. The second qualifier will open against North Mesquite, the third seed from 11-5A.
SOFTBALL
Halliwell pitches four-inning no-hitter for Consol: TEMPLE -- Sarah Halliwell did not allow a hit, and A&M Consolidated's softball team scored 11 runs in the third inning en route to a 15-0 victory that knocked Temple out of the District 12-5A lead.
Halliwell (16-3) allowed only one baserunner in the game, which ended after four innings because of the run rule. The Tem-Cats got a leadoff walk in the third, but Consol turned a double play so Halliwell wound up facing the minimum 12 batters while striking out three.
Consol improved to 18-3 overall and 3-1 in district. Temple fell to 11-11 and 2-1.
The Lady Tigers had 16 hits and took advantage of eight errors by Temple. Every Consol starter got at least one hit, including Dayton Kunz, who drove in a run as she returned to the lineup for the first time since injuring her knee in the season opener.
Leadoff batter Jordan Bettiol went 3 for 3 with a double and a run batted in, while Alyssa Gregg was 3 for 3 with a triple. Jordan Berry, Sarah Allison and Ashley Warzon had two hits apiece. Sydney Parks and Warzon both drove in two runs.
Consol will play a nondistrict game at Houston Stratford at 1 p.m. Saturday.

Lady Vikings run-rule Ellison: Emily Peirce drove in four runs and pitched a shutout to lead the Bryan softball team to a 12-0 victory over Killeen Ellison on Thursday at Lady Viking Softball Field.
Bryan (15-7) held on to its spot atop the District 12-5A standings at 2-0. Ellison dropped to 7-13 overall and 1-2 in the league.
Peirce delivered two-run singles in the first and fourth innings. The junior right-hander allowed just three hits as she improved her pitching record to 7-5.
Bryan scored seven runs in the fourth and the game was stopped in the middle of the fifth because of the run rule.
Patty Gorzycki and Kaitlyn Hathcox both had two hits and scored twice for Bryan. Gorzycki and Rachel Nuche had back-to-back doubles to start the Lady Vikings' three-run first inning.
"When you take a few days off, you never know what to expect and Ellison is one of those scary teams that is talented enough to make a game out of it," Bryan coach Enrique Luna said. "I'm proud of our crew for coming out and being patient at the plate."
