BASEBALL

Rudder beats Caldwell in 24-3A opener: The Rudder baseball team beat Caldwell 14-4 in six innings Tuesday in the District 24-3A opener for both teams.

Rudder's Will Johnson (2-0) picked up a complete game victory, striking out five to give him 21 strikeouts this season. Matt Fritsche was 2 for 4 with three runs scored while Blake Kopetsky was 2 for 4 with a triple, two runs scored and four RBIs.

Rudder will play Troy in the Rudder Ranger Baseball Battle at 5 p.m. Thursday.

BASKETBALL

Blinn guard named All-Region: Blinn's Kahlil McDonald was named to the All-Conference and All-Region first teams.

McDonald averaged 23.7 points per game in his sophomore season. He led the conference in 3-point percentage making 83 of 183 shots for 45.4 percent. McDonald was also 79.1 percent from the free-throw line.

Blinn pair earns regional honors: Blinn's Brateika Mock of Navasota was named to the All-Region team by Region XIV women's basketball coaches. Sophomore point guard Jaleesa Thomas of Huntsville earned honorable mention following the regional tournament in Tyler.

SOFTBALL

Rudder falls to Caldwell: The Rudder softball team dropped its District 24-3A opener to Caldwell 6-1 on Tuesday.

Caldwell's Hollie Chennault (8-2) struck out eight to pick up the victory. Chennault was 3 for 4 at the plate with a home run.

Rudder's Kayla Emory had a double and Jazzlyn Roberson had a triple.

Rudder (4-12) will play at Rockdale at 7 p.m. Friday.
