Consol girls to host tournament: Two-time defending Class 5A state champion Southlake Carroll will be among the teams seeking to prevent A&M Consolidated from winnings its home tournament for a third consecutive year when the Lady Tiger Invitational starts Friday.

The 36-hole event will be played at Pebble Creek, starting at 8:30 a.m. Friday and Saturday.

Consol is the returning team champion and also features the defending individual champion in Casey Grice. The senior won the 5A state title two years ago and currently is the top-ranked player in the state.

The 15-team field will include second-ranked Allen and seventh-ranked San Antonio MacArthur, along with former state champion Victoria Memorial and Bryan.

Consol boys stay perfect in 12-5A with shutout: A&M Consolidated shut out Copperas Cove 4-0 on Wednesday at Tigerland Stadium to move to 10-0 in District 12-5A play.

Eddie Hernandez, Nicos Georghiades, Scott Meyer and Tyler Eidson scored goals for Consol (13-7, 10-0), while Andrew Meyer and Camilo Clavijo each had an assist.

Henry Denoux and Matt Mjelde combined in goal for the Tigers.

Consol's JV beat Copperas Cove 6-0.

The Tigers will play at Temple at 8 p.m. Friday.

Lady Vikings rally to beat Temple: Taylor Erickson scored on a header with 2 minutes left in overtime as the Bryan girls soccer team rallied to beat Temple 2-1 on Wednesday at Merrill Green Stadium.

It was the first come-from-behind victory of the season for Bryan, which improved to 14-7-1 overall and 6-4 in District 12-5A. Temple fell to 12-7-1 and 7-3.

Erickson converted on a free kick by fellow senior Laura Briner for the overtime goal that lifted Bryan within a game of the third-place Tem-Cats.

Temple scored in the first half. Bryan tied the match early in the second half when Ileana Rodriguez scored off a crossing pass from Sierra Garcia.

Jaime Thompson led the Bryan defensive effort, with Ana Meyer in goal. The Lady Vikings got good performances from Erickson and Briner, along with freshman midfielder Brittany Little.

Bryan will play at Killeen Ellison on Friday.

SOFTBALL

Bryan opens district with easy win: HARKER HEIGHTS -- Emily Peirce picked up her third victory of the season, and catcher Reagan Boenker had a big day at the plate to help Bryan beat Harker Heights 18-1 in five innings to open District 12-5A play Wednesday.

Peirce (3-1) struck out five and allowed just one hit in three innings.

Boenker went 3 for 3 with her first career home run, driving in four and scoring twice.

Bryan (6-2, 1-0) will face Texas City at 1 p.m. and Clear Lake at 3 p.m. Thursday in the Elkins Tournament.

Consol wins district opener: Sarah Halliwell overcame a shaky start to pitch a three-hit shutout and Ashley Warzon drove in three runs with a couple of extra-base hits as the A&M Consolidated softball team beat Copperas Cove 10-0 on Wednesday afternoon.

The home win lifted the Lady Tigers to 10-1 overall and 1-0 in District 12-5A.

Halliwell (9-1) allowed five walks in the first two innings while battling an illness, but she did not walk another batter the rest of the way, finishing with 12 strikeouts.

Warzon delivered a double and a triple to lead Consol's nine-hit attack. Sydney Parks and Jordan Berry had two hits each, with Parks getting a double and driving in two runs. Alyssa Gregg added a double, while Kayley Smith knocked in two runs, hitting a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth to end the game because of the 10-run rule.

Cove dropped to 4-7 and 0-1.

Lady Tigers to host Invitational: The A&M Consolidated softball team will host the 12-team College Station ISD Varsity Tournament on Thursday through Saturday at Lady Tiger Field and Central Park.

Consol will play five games in a round-robin format, hoping to earn a spot in the championship game at 4:30 p.m. Saturday.

On Thursday, the Lady Tigers will face Euless Trinity at noon and Round Rock Westwood at 6 p.m.

Consol will have two more games Friday, taking on Hamshire-Fannett at 1 p.m. and Fort Bend Travis at 7 p.m. The Lady Tigers will complete pool play against Little Cypress-Mauriceville at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Teams in the other pool include Dripping Springs, Austin Westlake, Aledo, Henderson, Lufkin Hudson and Marbe Falls.

Consol won the Dripping Springs Tournament last weekend, beating the host team 9-6 in the championship.

Rudder rolls past Franklin: The Rudder softball team claimed a 17-0 victory over Franklin in nondistrict action Wednesday night on the Lady Rangers' home field.

Sophomore Britney Bledsoe earned the victory, throwing a one-hitter. Bledsoe also hit a home run.

The Lady Rangers got another homer from freshman Haley Parish as Rudder finished with nine hits. The Lady Rangers scored 12 runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, and the game was called in the middle of the fifth because of the 10-run rule.

Rudder (2-9) will open District 24-3A play at Navasota at 7 p.m. Friday.

Consol wins Viking Classic, Bryan places sixth: The A&M Consolidated Tigers won the 2010 Viking Tennis Classic, edging The Woodlands 260-248 last weekend. Bryan was sixth in the 15-team event.

Consol's Nellie Hillner and Kristina Raphael won girls doubles with a 6-2, 6-4 victory over The Woodlands' Workman and Gear.

Consol's Victoria Liere was third in girls singles. Consol's Chris Walter and Ben Walter were third in boys doubles. Consol's Frankie Colunga was fifth in boys singles.

Bryan was led by AshLee Bilbo and Madison Franze who were fifth in girls doubles. Jacob Atkins was eighth in boys singles and Eduardo Cisneros-Hassan Mahmood and Shawn Greinert and Chris Ramirez finished 11th and 12th respectively in boys doubles.
