Vikings, Panthers play to tie: Bryan and Waco Midway played to a 1-1 tie in the opening round of the Brazos Valley Bomber Tournament on Thursday at Viking Field.

The game finished in a tie because of the tournament's 1-hour, 45-minute time limit. Bryan's Krey Bratsen was 3 for 4, while Travis Grygar had the other Viking hit.

Junior pitcher Colby Arevalo pitched five innings, striking out five with no walks.

Somerville beats Evadale to advance: CANEY CREEK -- The Somerville boys basketball team beat Evadale 71-65 in overtime in the Class A Division I playoffs Wednesday.

The Yeguas will face Milano at 7 p.m. Friday in Rockdale in the area round.

Calvert advances past YES Prep Southwest: HEMPSTEAD -- The Calvert boys basketball team beat Houston YES Prep Southwest 75-45 in the area round of the Class A Division II playoffs on Thursday.

Calvert will play the winner of Leggett vs. Austwell-Tivoli in the regional quarterfinals at a site and time to be determined.

Calvert's Andre Ross had 20 points and 10 rebounds while Blair Bunns had 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Teammate Henry Lloyd added 11 points and five rebounds and made three of five 3-pointers while Christopher Ramirez had seven points and five rebounds.

Consol opens tourney with victory: The A&M Consolidated softball team beat Bastrop 8-1 in five innings Thursday to open the Dripping Springs Tournament.

Consol's Jordan Bettiol was 3 for 3 with two runs and an RBI while Sidney Parks was 2 for 4 with two runs and an RBI. Winning pitcher Sarah Halliwell (4-1) was 2 for 3 with an RBI.

Consol (5-1) will play Pflugerville Connally at 9 a.m. Friday and Marble Falls at 5 p.m.

Bryan JV Silver wins two: The Bryan JV Silver softball team won a pair of games against varsity teams at the Leon Tournament on Thursday.

Bryan beat Mexia 6-2 with Brittney Jones the winning pitcher with four strikeouts. Taylor Canales had two hits and Hannah Parker had one.

Bryan beat Bremond 6-0 behind Parker, who had five strikeouts. Parker, Jones and Canales had hits.

Bryan will play Leon at 3:30 p.m. Friday followed by a game against Wortham.
