BASKETBALL

Rudder gets share of district title: CALDWELL -- The Rudder boys basketball team beat Caldwell 62-44 on Tuesday to clinch a share of the District 24-3A title.

Rudder (21-7, 10-2) finished tied with Navasota.

Rudder's Semaj McGruder led all scorers with 16 points while Marquis Taylor had 12.

Caldwell's Nathan Rodriguez had 12 points.

Consol drops finale to Temple: TEMPLE -- The A&M Consolidated boys basketball team lost on the road to Temple 58-52 in overtime in the District 12-5A finale for both teams.

Consol (22-12, 9-5) already had clinched a playoff spot. The Tigers finish in a tie with Killeen Ellison for third in 12-5A, and a coin toss Wednesday will decide the teams' seeding. Consol will play 11-5A's second-seeded Mesquite if it wins the coin toss and 11-5A champion DeSoto if it loses.

"I'm proud of our guys for fighting back in the second half," Consol head coach Rusty Segler said.

Consol committed 15 turnovers in the first half and trailed 27-23.

Kevin Jefferson and Justin Campbell each had 15 points for the Tigers while Alex Caruso scored 10.

Leon beats Arp in bi-district: JACKSONVILLE -- The Leon girls basketball team beat Arp 61-52 in the bi-district round of the Class 2A playoffs Tuesday at Lon Morris Junior College.

Allison Carrigan led Leon with 11 points while Kori Charlton had nine.

Leon (21-6) will play Daingerfield at Tyler Junior College at 6 p.m. Friday.

SOCCER

Bryan girls blank Shoemaker: The Bryan girls soccer team beat Killeen Shoemaker 5-0 on Tuesday in District 12-5A play.

Brittany Little led the Lady Vikings with two goals and an assist while Dani Fellow had one goal and one assist. Also scoring goals for Bryan were Taylor Erickson and Casey Shea. Kylie O'Connell added two assists.

Bryan's Ana Meyer was in goal for the shutout.

Bryan (3-3 in 12-5A) is in fourth place in the district and will travel to fifth-place Harker Heights at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Consol boys beat Harker Heights with second-half push: Colby Graff scored two goals in the second half to give the A&M Consolidated boys soccer team a 3-1 victory over Harker Heights on Tuesday in District 12-5A action.

Janni Georgiades scored Consol's other goal. Teammate Nicos Georgiades had two assists and Vin Her had one assist. Midfielder Scott Meyer also played well.

Consol's JV A team beat Heights 4-1 while the JV B team won 2-0.

Consol (9-7, 6-0) will host Belton at 8 p.m. Friday.

Consol girls rout Harker Heights: Six players scored goals for the A&M Consolidated girls soccer team in a 10-0 shutout of Harker Heights on Tuesday in District 12-5A play.

Consol's Emily Smith had a hat trick while Katie Berlund and Vicky Wilhelm each scored two goals. Teammates Avery Burns, Morgan Anderson and Blake Martin each scored a goal while Mayra Patlan, Wilhelm, Smith and Katy Turner each had an assist.

The Consol JV (8-0-1, 5-0-1) beat Harker Heights 9-0. Kalli Krivdo, Katelyn Armatys, Carolina Orsi and Lindsay Allen each scored two goals while Nicol Warren added one.

Consol (11-5, 6-0) will travel to Belton on Friday.

SOFTBALL

Consol opens with victory: KATY -- Dayton Kunz hit a triple in the ninth inning to score the go-ahead run as the A&M Consolidated softball team beat Katy Cinco Ranch 7-5 on Tuesday.

Kunz was 2 for 5 with two triples and one RBI. Kunz started at catcher but an injury forced her out of the position in the second inning.

Consol's Sarah Allison was limited to three innings behind the plate due to an ongoing issue with elbow tendinitis. Allison was also 2 for 5 and scored a run in the ninth. Consol's third catcher, Ashley Warzon, was 4 for 5 with two RBIs.

Consol's Sarah Halliwell picked up her first victory, allowing 11 hits while striking out six.

Consol will play Midland Lee in the Austin Westlake Tournament at 11 a.m. Thursday.
