SOCCER

Bryan girls suffer first loss: KATY -- The Bryan girls soccer team lost its first match of the season Thursday, falling 1-0 to Clear Brook in the opening round of the I-10 Shootout.

The Lady Vikings (5-1) will play Friendswood at 10 a.m. Friday in the consolation bracket of the tournament that was started five years ago by new Bryan coach Amy Pettibone when she coached at Katy Cinco Ranch.

Pettibone said Bryan had the advantage in play against Clear Brook, which reached the 5A regional quarterfinals last year, but the Lady Vikings allowed a goal on a 35-yard shot that rode the wind. It was Clear Brook's only shot of the first half, compared to seven for Bryan.

Bryan got strong play on defense and in the midfield from freshman Brittany Little along with seniors Taylor Erickson and Jessica Chicas.
