Bryan girls win season opener: GALVESTON -- The Bryan girls soccer team defeated Jersey Village 3-0 in the first round of the Galveston Tournament on Thursday, starting the season and a new coaching regime in style.

Senior Dani Fellows scored in the opening half and contributed an assist as the Lady Vikings added two goals in the second half from Laura Briner and Brittany Little. Kylie O'Connor had two assists.

Bryan goalkeeper Ana Meyer was supported by a strong defense that got an impressive debut from freshman Jaime Thompson.

Played in wind-chill temperatures that dipped into the low 30s, it was the first game as Lady Vikings head coach for Amy Pettibone, who replaced Aminadab Delgado.

Bryan will have two matches Friday, playing Alvin Manvel at 11 a.m. and Houston Chabet at 3 p.m.

TRACK

High school meet at A&M: More than 800 high schoolers will compete in the Texas A&M Indoor Open on Friday and Saturday at Texas A&M's Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium.

Friday's events will be the prelims in the 200 and 400 meters along with four field finals. Saturday's events will include 16 running finals and six field events.

Running prelims Friday will start at 5 p.m. and the field events will start at 6. Saturday's first running session will be at 9:30 a.m. and the first field event will be at 10:40 a.m. The second Saturday session will start at 4:30 p.m.

BASEBALL

TCL to add sixth team this season: The Texas Collegiate League will be adding a sixth team in 2010, the league announced earlier this week.

The Victoria Baseball Club, owners of the Victoria Generals, have purchased a second franchise and plan to announce the location of their newest team shortly.

With the addition of a sixth team, the TCL is planning to increase the number of games in a season from 48 to 56.
