Viking outfielder to play in Classic: Bryan outfielder Krey Bratsen has been selected to play in the AFLAC All-American High School Baseball Classic.
The all-star game will be held at San Diego's PETCO Park, home of the San Diego Padres, on Aug. 16. It is a showcase for the top 40 high school senior baseball players in the country.
Bratsen, a two-time all-Brazos Valley selection, batted .471 with a slugging percentage of .800 his junior season. He hit .520 with runners in scoring position. He had 25 RBIs, seven doubles, three triples and stole 28 bases. Bratsen scored 43 runs.
Bratsen will compete for the West after three days of workouts at the University of San Diego's Cunningham Stadium.
GOLF
Lardon shoots even par: SANTA ANA PUEBLO, N.M. -- Brad Lardon shot an even-par round of 71 on Tuesday and is 1 over after three rounds of the PGA Professional National Championship.
Lardon, the club pro at Miramont Country Club, had three birdies and three bogeys on his round at Twin Warriors Golf Club.
Second-round leader Mark Sheftic retained the overall lead. He shot a 70 and has a two-stroke lead over a trio of competitors.
Traditions' pro Tim Thelen shot 76. He birdied three of his first four holes, but lost strokes on five holes on the back nine, including a triple bogey six at the par-3, 224-yard 15th hole. Thelen is 3 over for the tournament.
VOLLEYBALL
BV 12 finish 13th at national event: MIAMI BEACH -- The Brazos Valley 12 Mizuno won two matches Tuesday at the USA Junior Olympics to finish 13th in the 12 American Division. The Brazos Valley 12 Mizuno beat Cincy Classics from Cincinnati 13-25, 25-20, 15-9 and Vision Volleyball from Los Gatos, Calif., 20-25, 25-22, 15-12 behind good play from Karsen Ross, Keaton Schrank, Christi Corkran and Paige Kopetsky.
The Brazos Valley 17 Mizuno went 3-0 on Tuesday, beating the Memphis Juniors 26-24, 25-19, the Carolina Juniors 25-22, 25-19 and Pittsburgh's Synergy Volleyball. Brooke Davidson and Ashton Holliday led Mizuno, which will wrap up tournament play Wednesday.
