SOFTBALL

CS Tigers heading to Georgia: The College Station Tigers 12-U B softball team qualified for the Southern "B" National Championship set for July 23-26 in Georgia.

The squad, led by manager Derek Bangs and coach Billy Hicks, finished in the top six at the ASA State Tournament in Lufkin on June 12-14.

Team members included Beth Ashley, Callie Hardin, Madison Homeyer, Alyssa Vega, Chloe Brignac, Jessica Almand, Jordan Schehin, Kristi Bangs, Cat Mendez, Hannah Grubbs, Sheridan Scholtz, Gabbi Orzabal.

Late registration Monday for Bryan-Rudder camp: Late registration for the Bryan-Rudder softball camp will be on Monday from 7:30-8:30 a.m. at the Bryan Softball Complex.

The camp will run Monday-Thursday from 8:30-11:30 a.m. for anyone in grades two through eight in the 2008-09 school year. Cost is $60. For more information, contact Bryan softball coach Enrique Luna at 979-209-7970.

VOLLEYBALL

Two more local players make Junior Olympics: Callen Horton of Allen Academy and Casey Shomaker of A&M Consolidated will compete in the United States Volleyball Junior Olympics that begins Saturday in Miami.

Shomaker and Horton, who will be sophomores in the fall, compete for the Houston-based Texas Tornados in the 15-year-old division. It will be the third trip to the Junior Olympics for Shomaker, who will return to Florida in late July to compete in the High Performance Championships. Horton will be making her first trip to the Junior Olympics.

Three other teams from the area, representing the Brazos Valley Juniors, also will compete in Miami in the 12, 16 and 17 age groups.
