Consol holds off rally for win: KILLEEN -- The A&M Consolidated baseball team almost let a 14-0 third-inning lead slip away Tuesday, but the Tigers held on just for a 16-13 victory over Harker Heights in 12-5A action.

Kevin Bishop, 6-1, was the winning pitcher, with Riley Ferrell getting the save.

Andrew Brown had a two-run home run for the Tigers, who had 16 hits.

Consol (16-3, 5-0) will host Copperas Cove at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Rudder rolls past Rattlers: Thanks to a seven-run third inning, the Rudder Ranger baseball team pulled away from the Navasota Rattlers 11-3 on Tuesday night at Rudder in 24-3A play.

Blake Kopetsky had a triple and two RBIs while Kyle Danford added two RBIs to make Will Johnson, 4-1, the winner.

Rudder (16-3, 5-1) will play at Caldwell at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Bryan escapes on bases-loaded walk: Bryan winning pitcher Jennifer Kasper had eight strikeouts, but none bigger than her final plate appearance: a two-out, bases-loaded walk that scored Patty Gorzycki to hand the Lady Vikings a 2-1 win over Belton in 12-5A play Tuesday night.

Kasper, who was 2-for-3 batting, improved to 12-2 on the season. Gorzycki was 2-for-4 along with Ashley Lara, who added a double.

Bryan (19-7, 7-0) will host Harker Heights at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Navasota downs Rudder. Navasota's Kayla Garcia pitched and battled the Lady Rattlers to an 8-5 victory over Rudder on Tuesday at Rudder.

Garcia struck out six and was 2-for-3 batting with two stolen bases and three runs. Riley Poston was 2 for 3. Caitlyn Druckhammer had a big two-run hit in the sixth.

GYMNASTICS

Regional championships start Wednesday at Rudder: The Region II Gymnastics Championships will begin Wednesday at Rudder High School with compulsory routines.

Introductions of the boys teams will begin at 10:45 a.m., with the girls introductions set for 3:45 p.m.

Optionals are Thursday. Boys introductions are set for 9:45 a.m., and the girls begin at 2:45 p.m.

The Bryan boys were state champions in 2008 and 2009, but all gymnastics competition in the Bryan Independent School District is now held at Rudder. Rudder's boys won the district championship at Round Rock to qualify for the regional meet.

The A&M Consolidated girls, who were a close second to host Round Rock at the district meet, won the Rudder Invitational.
