Bishop, Riebe key Tigers win: OAK RIDGE -- Kevin Bishop pitched a three-hitter and Caleb Riebe hit a two-run double as A&M Consolidated opened the season with a 3-1 victory over Oak Ridge.

The game was moved up from Tuesday because of the threat of bad weather, taking away a day of preparation from Bishop, who has had a sore shoulder. The senior right-hander pitched a complete game, striking out eight. Bishop escaped a bases-loaded jam in the bottom of the seventh, getting a fly ball to end the game.

Consol broke a 1-1 tie in the third inning. Two walks, a stolen base and a wild pitch set the stage for Riebe's go-ahead double.

The Tigers will play in the Pearland Tournament on Thursday.

Rangers roll in opener: TRINITY -- The Rudder baseball team banged out eight hits and took advantage of eight Trinity errors to take its season opener 13-0 on Monday.

Kyle Danford went 3 for 3 at the plate and pitched a couple of innings as Rudder ended the game after five innings because of the 10-run rule. The Rangers got two hits apiece from Matt Fritsche and Blake Kopetsky, who drove in three runs.

Kopetsky started and got the victory for Rudder. He combined with Danford and Will Johnson to limit Trinity to one hit while striking out 10.

The Rangers will play New Waverly in the Franklin Tournament on Thursday.

Arevalo leads potent Bryan offense: MAGNOLIA -- Junior Colby Arevalo had a home run among his three hits and drove in six runs to lead Bryan over Magnolia West 12-3 in a season opener Monday.

Arevalo went 3 for 5, including a double.

The Vikings pounded out 13 hits, including at least one for each starter, as they overcame a three-run deficit after two innings. Krey Bratsen went 2 for 5 with a triple, scoring three runs and driving in two. Jacob Huckabay hit a homer and drove in two runs, while Travis Grygar added two hits.

Sophomore pitcher Ty Culbreth earned the victory. Culbreth was one of four Bryan relievers who held Magnolia West scoreless over the last five innings.

The Vikes will host the Bryan Bomber Classic this weekend with two games Thursday, facing Montgomery at 3:30 p.m. and Waco Midway at 7 p.m.
