BASEBALL

Bombers rained out: The Brazos Valley Bombers' bid for a fourth straight victory was put on hold Monday as their game in McKinney was rained out.

The Bombers (11-6) beat the Marshals 5-4 Sunday night and moved into a tie with the East Texas PumpJacks for first place in the Texas Collegiate League. BV plated the winning run in the ninth inning when Joe Craven beat out an infield single as the throw sailed over the first baseman's head, allowing Kyle Atkins to score.

BV is tied with East Texas for first place in the Texas Collegiate League.

Monday's game will not be made up. The Bombers have Tuesday off before playing host to the Marshals on Wednesday in the first of a four-game homestand.

Also Monday, BV center fielder Clifton Thomas was named the TCL Player of the Week. The Texas A&M-Kingsville product went 7 for 14 at the plate with two doubles and two triples last week.

Pettitbone replaces Francisco Delgado, who resigned after four years as coach of the Lady Vikings. He led Bryan to its first playoff appearance in the sport. Delgado and his family have moved to Costa Rica.
