Brazos Valley 16 Mizuno 1-1 at USA Volleyball Junior Olympics: MIAMI -- Brazos Valley 16 Mizuno finished 1-1 on the first day of the USA Volleyball Junior Olympics

BV lost a close first match to Club One (Northern Colorado), 23-25, 23-25. Erika Arthur and Julia Westerbur played well to keep BVJ close.

In the second match of the day, BV rallied to beat Empire (Santa Rosa, Calif.) 10-25, 27-25, 15-12 behind the excellent play of Arthur and Paulina Ramirez. Hallie Shafer was solid on defense.

The 16s resume play on Saturday with three matches, and BV 12 Mizuno will play the first matches of its tournament.
