BREMOND -- Missed opportunities plagued the Bremond Tigers in their Homecoming game Friday night. Leon's defense stiffened, and Bremond failed to capitalize on good field position late as the Cougars held on for a 22-19 victory.
Leon's Kirby Watson threw a 74-yard touchdown pass to Justin Padgett on the first drive of the game.
Bremond (0-3) answered 2 minutes into the second quarter with a 22-yard touchdown pass from Johnathon White to Dylon Lindley.
The Cougars' Chris Vasquez then capped an 8-play, 55-yard drive with a 4-yard touchdown run to regain the lead for Leon (2-2).
The Tigers were able to score again with 3:24 remaining in the half but the extra-point kick failed, giving Leon a 14-13 halftime lead.
White scored on a 63-yard run on the first play of the second half to give Bremond a 19-14 lead.
But Leon used a turnover late in the fourth quarter to start an 80-yard, game-winning drive, scoring with 1:04 left to take a 22-19 lead.
Bremond will play at Chilton while Leon will host Buffalo next week.
