Bryan girls in 11th place at Huntsville Invitational: HUNTSVILLE -- The Bryan girl's golf team is in 11th place after shooting a 377 in the first round of the Huntsville Invitational on Friday at Raven Nest Golf Club.
The final round will start at 8 a.m. Saturday.
The Woodlands leads with a score of 321. Montgomery is second at 323, and Magnolia is third at 329.
Kaitlyn McDougal of Houston Lamar is the individual leader at 74. Bryan's team leader is Tyler Sheffield, who shot an 85, while teammate Kayli Clay shot an 86. Other Bryan finishers were Taylor Bona (102), Lizzi Alderete (104) and Mary Hicks (107).

Consol girls in third place at Georgetown Invitational: The A&M Consolidated girls golf team is in third place after shooting a 319 on the first day of the Georgetown Invitational on Friday at Legacy Hills golf course.
Austin Westlake is in the lead at 299. Consol's Casey Grice is the individual leader at 71. Teammate Lauren Ballenger shot a 78, while Haley Green and Shikhi Cheruku each shot a 85. Angela No scored an 86.
FOOTBALL
Bryan freshman Silver 26, Belton 14: Randy Copning scored two rushing touchdowns while Fred Pittman added another to lead Bryan.
Brian Jones recorded a safety, Ryan Way intercepted two passes and Nick Martinez recovered a fumble.
Bryan finished 7-2-1.

Belton JV 50, Bryan Blue 22: Chris Morrow scored two rushing touchdowns and Chris Johnson found Nigel Walker with a passing touchdown to lead Bryan.
Kenneth Jackson had a safety and Johnson had one interception.
Bryan finished 2-8.
VOLLEYBALL
Centerville beats Buna in area round: The Centerville volleyball team swept Buna, 25-14, 25-6, 25-15, in the area round of the Class 2A playoffs Thursday.
Centerville will play either Warren or New Waverly in the regional quarterfinals at a time and place to be determined.
LeAnne Jones led Centerville with 13 kills and two blocks while Jill Griffin had two kills and three digs. Teammate Raimey Griffin had 12 kills and six digs while Sarah Mutschler had six kills and 15 assists. Taylor Sullivan added 17 assists and Kelsey Lagrone had 12 digs.

Anderson-Shiro spikes YES Prep Southeast: The Anderson-Shiro volleyball team swept Houston YES Prep Southeast, 25-10, 25-9, 25-9, on Friday in the area round of the Class 2A playoffs.
Anderson-Shiro (22-17) will play Hardin in the Region 3 quarterfinals at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Caney Creek.
Macy Moriarty led Anderson with 15 assists, three digs and three aces while Jordan Hitchcock had 14 kills, three blocks and two digs. Teammate Bailee Imhoff had four kills, two digs and seven aces while Taylor Sicola had six kills.

North Zulch digs out victory in area round: The North Zulch volleyball team beat Katy Nelms, 25-4, 25-5, 25-14, on Friday in the area round of the Class A playoffs.
North Zulch (18-14) will play Iola in the regional quarterfinals at 8 p.m. Tuesday at Bryan High School.
Katie Gilbert led North Zulch with seven aces, 18 assists and three kills while Taylor Jones had 11 kills and two aces. Teammate Mallorie Ferrell had seven aces and three kills while Taylor Douget added three kills.

Caldwell advances to regional quarterfinals: WILLIS -- The Caldwell Lady Hornets had a slow start, but finished strong for a 21-25, 25-18, 25-13, 25-16 match win over Bridge City in the area round of the playoffs.
Sondra Flippin led the Hornets (28-12) with 11 kills. Vantazia Jackson added seven kills. Ashlee Hollis recorded 12 digs and Allison Alford had 24 assists.
Caldwell plays in the regional quarterfinals against Tarkington at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Sam Houston State's Johnson Coliseum.
