Add a couple of boxes to the items that Steve Huff needs to pack as he makes the move from Oklahoma to become the head football coach and athletics coordinator at College Station High School.

Huff will be bringing resumes. A week after being hired for the high school that will open this fall, Huff has been flooded with email from coaches interested in being part of his first staff with the Cougars.

"It's awesome," Huff said. "I have not posted a coaching job yet, and it's amazing to me the people that are sending in resumes. People want to come to College Station, and having the new school is a draw."

Huff was in College Station on Thursday for two days' work at his new job. His release date from Midwest City High School is Feb. 3. He will officially start with College Station ISD on Feb. 6, but Huff plans to spend a couple of days on CSHS tasks next week when the University Interscholastic League announces its biennial realignment.

With his new school under construction, Huff has set up shop in the CSISD administration building to work with principal Mike Martindale.

"I've got a desk and a computer, and I'm just firing away," Huff said. "Everything's new, things like who to call when you need to get something done. But there's people willing to step up and help, and that's what is great."

One of Huff's top priorities is hiring coaches. The first step in the process is to work with Martindale to determine which coaches currently at A&M Consolidated will transfer to CSHS. After that, job openings will be posted and interviews will begin with Huff hoping to pick a staff as soon as possible even though the coaches likely will finish the academic year at their current schools.

"I haven't been told I need to get this done by a particular time, but I think there are timelines in my head," Huff said. "There are so many things that need to be done and ordered, uniform and equipment things. Those are things coaches can get done and not necessarily be here."

CSHS will open in the fall with freshmen and sophomores. The Cougars will compete at the varsity level in all sports except football, which will not be part of a UIL district or eligible for the playoffs until 2014.

The new school is expected to be in Class 3A. Last fall College Station's "snapshot day" enrollment figure was 917.1, which was derived from a UIL formula for schools with only freshmen and sophomores. CSISD officials forecast an actual attendance next year of 690.

In the most recent realignment two years ago, the range for 3A schools was 430 to 989.
