The Celina Bobcats, who had averaged nearly 43 points en route to the Division II final at the Fox Sports Southwest 7-on-7 State Championship, didn't score an offensive point in the first half of the title game.

They didn't worry, either.

Celina's defense intercepted four passes, and senior Cody Worrell threw four touchdown passes in the second half to rally the Bobcats to a 35-19 victory over Rice Consolidated in the Class 3A-A championship game Friday at Kyle Field.

Celina's only first-half points came on Ryan Merritt's interception return for a touchdown. Rice Consolidated built a 13-7 halftime lead with quarterback Myles Dumont hitting Mario Hull and Michael Scott for scores.

The Raiders then took a 19-7 lead when J.J. Reggins caught a deep post pattern for a touchdown, but it was the last scoring throw for Dumont, who was picked off on consecutive possessions by Celina's Harrison Sherwood, David Arogunmati and Jay Perez.

Worrell, who directed Celina to the inaugural Division II championship before his sophomore season, threw two touchdown passes to Justin Brumfield and locked up the game with scoring passes to tournament MVP Jose Romero.

"In the second half, we said 'Let's play our game,'" Romero said. "'We don't wake up at six o'clock and work out until we are dead, basically, for nothing. We are in way better condition than this and we can perform.'"

Worrell laughed when talking about the irony of Celina's 7-on-7 success.

"Celina's always been known as a running powerhouse team," he said. "We come out here and all we do is pass, and we win. In the regular season, we're mainly running the ball until you stop us, and then we pass."

Cameron advanced to the quarterfinals when the Yoemen met a team they will face again when the real football season rolls around, beating Gatesville 20-15.

In the quarterfinals, Glen Rose's Ty Taylor intercepted a pass on Cameron's last drive to seal a 30-26 victory.

"We did well for our first trip here," Cameron quarterback Steven Townsend said. "We've got to battle until the last possession, because you never know what can happen at the end."

Cameron led Glen Rose 20-12 at halftime on Townsend's touchdown pass to Dedrick Westbrook. But Glen Rose quarterback Colt Plaster opened the second half with a touchdown pass to Frank Brandenburg, and Plaster later completed two more scores in the left flat to Chase Evatt to take the lead on two occasions.

Glen Rose fell 32-26 in overtime to Rice Consolidated in the semifinals.

Cameron finished 3-2 in the tournament, a record that was almost a bit better than that -- the Yoe had a chance to tie or win on their final possessions in both losses.

"This has been two good days of workout time with my receivers," Townsend said.

Cameron's James Wells was the only Brazos Valley player named to the all-tournament team.

The other two District 24-3A teams lost their opening-round games in the championship bracket. Navasota fell to Hitchcock 34-31, and Brownwood beat Rockdale 47-26.

West won the consolation final 35-28 when Lane Machac intercepted a pass by Carthage quarterback Anthony Morgan and returned it for a touchdown. The Trojans had just tied the game on Kelvin Anthony's fourth touchdown pass across the middle to Ryan Wilcoxson.

West had three second-half interceptions. Casey Baugh picked off a pass on Carthage's first possession of the half. Cody Aycock locked up the game for the Trojans with an interception in the end zone on the game's final play.

Carthage took a 21-7 halftime lead, thanks to interceptions by Fabian Ewins and Edward Pope. Pope nearly padded that lead with a catch just outside the end zone but was tagged a yard short of the goal as time expired.
