IOLA -- Seven turnovers and missed opportunities led to Iola's first loss of the season. The Bulldogs (1-1) threw five interceptions and lost two fumbles.
Trailing 12-8 late in the fourth quarter, the Iola defense forced a third-and-10 try for Bartlett. One Iola defender missed a tackle of the running back in the backfield and two others missed tackles along the sidelines, allowing the Bartlett player to gain 31 yards. Later in the drive, Bartlett quarterback Gabriel Gattison connected with Eric Walker on a 31-yard pass play to seal the victory.
Iola's only score came just moments after the second half kickoff, which Iola recovered despite kicking off. Two plays later, Trevor Fairbanks ran for a 25-yard touchdown, followed by a Chris Ebers two-point conversion to cut Bartlett's lead to 12-8. Steven Williamson added 50 yards on the ground while Ebers had 58 yards.
The only first-half points came on Gattison runs of 50 and 24 yards for Bartlett, with both PATs failing.
Iola will play at Milano next Friday.
