SA Lutheran knocks out Brazos Christian boys: SAN ANTONIO -- San Antonio Lutheran parlayed a strong second quarter into a 64-57 TAPPS 2A area playoff victory over Brazos Christian on Saturday.

Cole Brigman led the Eagles (11-11) with 13 points and nine rebounds. Michael Paine had 10 points. Both were beneficiaries of Brittain Bost's nine assists.

S.A. Lutheran (23-10) broke open a close game with a 20-7 advantage in the second quarter.

Centerville rolls into quarterfinals: FAIRFIELD -- The Centerville girls basketball team defeated Frankston 45-34 on Friday, advancing to the Class 2A regional quarterfinals where it will face Crockett at a time and location still to be determined.

Fallon Parnell led all scorers with 17 points for the Lady Tigers (23-9).

Bryan's DeStefano takes second at Corser/Kobza: SEALY -- Bryan's Sam DeStefano won a three-way playoff with back-to-back birdies at River Ridge Golf Club to take second individually at the Corser/Kobza Memorial on Saturday.

Bryan placed sixth as a team, shooting 325-328-653 in the two-day event. Deer Park won at 623.

DeStefano shot 76 on Friday and 75 on Saturday to finish in a tie for second behind Katy's Cody Hebert, who shot 74-76-150.

Also for Bryan, Cody Meier shot 83-78-161 to place 24th followed by Clayton Hudson (84-84-168) in 43rd, Matt Martinez (82-91-173) in 61st and Matthew Wilkinson (95-92-187) in 76th.

Rudder's Jonathan Vasquez took seventh after rounds of 82 and 73.

On the girls side, Bryan's Tyler Sheffield placed 20th at 87-86-173. Taylor Rieger shot 91-97-188 (37th) and Taylor Bona shot 91-102-193 (42nd) for Bryan.

GYMNASTICS

Rudder boys win Consol Invitational: The Rudder Boys gymnastics team won the A&M Consolidated Invitational on Friday.

Rudder's Enoch Rodriguez won the all-around, pommel horse and rings and took second on the vault, parallel bars and high bar.

Rudder's Michael Gonzalez won the floor exercise and parallel bars and placed fifth on the high bar. Tyler Houdek took second on the floor and placed eighth in the all-around. Eric Hmielewski took third on the pommel horse. Mark Herrera took third on the high bar. Taylor Fletcher placed fourth on the floor, and Brendan Leo finished eighth on the vault.

The Rangers will host the Rudder Invitational at 11 a.m. Friday.

SOCCER

Consol boys beats Harker Heights: KILLEEN -- The A&M Consolidated boys soccer team earned a 4-1 District 12-5A victory over Harker Heights Friday.

Camilo Cladijo, Kolby Graff, Austen McDougald and Ryan Bruffett each scored for Consol (9-6, 5-1). Kyle Duncan was in goal for the win.

Consol's JV A team won 3-2 and Consol's JV B team won 4-0.

The Tigers will host Belton at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

SOFTBALL

Consol advances to semifinals at Kickoff Classic: BEAUMONT -- A&M Consolidated won a pair of games Friday to advance to the semifinals of the Southeast Texas Kickoff Classic.

Consol beat Kountze 7-0 in five innings then edged Orangefield 3-2 in a game shortened to three innings due to fog.

Consol played Crosby in the semifinals Saturday.
