Consol girls beat Belton: Karla Gilbert had 19 points and 15 rebounds, and Ashley Adeyemi had 12 points to lead the A&M Consolidated girls basketball team past Belton 61-43 on Friday at Tiger Gym.

Consol led by 10 after the first quarter and built its lead to 27 through three quarters to put the game away.

Tigers' defense stifling in district win: BELTON -- A solid defensive performance helped A&M Consolidated hold off Belton 57-40 on Friday, keeping Consol in the hunt for a District 12-5A playoff berth.

Kevin Jefferson led the Tigers with 18 points, while Quinton White and Justin Campbell each had 11.

Consol (20-11, 7-4) will host Copperas Cove at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Bryan boys lose on road: TEMPLE -- The Bryan Vikings erased a double-digit deficit in the fourth quarter but couldn't take the lead as Temple held off Bryan 51-48 in District 12-5A boys basketball action Friday.

Down by more than 10 in the second half, Bryan rallied to tie the game at 48. But Temple answered with a three-point play with 13 seconds left, and the Vikings missed two 3-point attempts to force the game to overtime.

FOOTBALL

Brenham's Hall makes first-team all-state: Brenham defensive back Jeremy Hall, who helped the Cubs reach the Class 4A Division II state title game, is a first-team pick on the 58th Annual Collin Street Bakery/Texas Sports Writers Association's Class 4A all-state football team.

The 191-pound Hall had seven interceptions,10 passes broken up, 66 tackles and eight tackles for losses.

Brenham linebacker Michael Walker (130 tackles, 38 TFL, 7 sacks) was a third-team pick. Cub wide receiver Terrell Reese (61 catches-890 yards, 15 TDs) and quarterback Ty Schlottmann (187-of-323 passing, 2,303 yards, 30 TDs, 8 INTs) earned honorable mention.

GYMNASTICS

Rudder sweeps first home meet of season: The Rudder boys gymnastics team held off Richland to win its first home meet of the season.

Rudder had 146.6 points to Richland's 125.9. Birdville played third followed by Humble Atascosita, Haltom and Alvin.

Rudder's Enoch Rodriguez won the floor exercise, pommel Horse, vault and horizontal bar to win the all-around. Rudder's Michael Gonzalez won the rings and parallel bars to give the Rangers a sweep of the six events. Gonzalez also finished second in the all-around.

Rudder's Marc Herrera finished second on the vault and horizontal bar, third on the parallel bars and fourth in the all-around. Brendan Leo placed third on the floor exercise and fifth on the vault. Freshman Kenneth Newbold placed fourth on the pommel horse, fifth on the floor exercise and sixth on the rings.

The Rangers will host Kingwood, Round Rock, Highland Park and Boswell in the Rudder Invitational on Feb. 26.

SOCCER

Consol boys blank Copperas Cove: COPPERAS COVE -- The A&M Consolidated boys soccer team shut out Copperas Cove 7-0 on Friday night in District 12-5A action.

Consol's Kolby Graff scored two goals, while Nicos Georgiades, Scott Meyer, Yanni Georgiades, Ryan Bruffett and Camilo Clavijo each scored one. Meyer, Clavijo, Bin Her, Andrew Meyer and Ryan Armatys each had an assist. Combining in goal for the shutout were Henry Denoux and Matt Mjelde.

Consol's JV won 4-0.

The Tigers (6-7, 3-0) will host Temple at 8 p.m. Tuesday.

Temple girls shut out Bryan: Temple's girls soccer team scored the go-ahead goal on a breakaway with less than 2 minutes left to beat Bryan 1-0 on Friday.

Bryan (9-5-1, 1-2) will host Killeen Ellison at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Bryan boys fall to Temple: Bryan lost to Temple 5-2 on Friday in District 12-5A action at Merrill Green Stadium.

Fabian Guerrero and Adrian Godinez netted goals for the Vikings, who dropped to 1-2 in district play. Bryan's Cristobal Lopez had an assist.

Bryan's JV won 4-0 led by Jose Falcon's two goals.

Bryan will play at Killeen Ellison at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Lady Tigers beat Copperas Cove 7-1: A&M Consolidated's girls soccer team remained undefeated in District 12-5A with a 7-1 victory over Copperas Cove on Friday night at Tigerland Stadium.

Consol's Katie Berlund scored two goals, while Mayra Patlan, Karis Jochen, Vicky Wilhelm and Emily Smith each scored one. Consol also scored when Morgan Anderson played a ball off a Copperas Cove for an own-goal.

Now 3-0 in district play, Consol will play at Temple at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Consol's JV beat Copperas Cove 8-0.

Lady Rattlers lose at Magnolia: The Navasota girl's soccer team lost to Magnolia Friday night 3-1.

Cailey McClain scored the lone for the Lady Rattlers on a free kick in the first half.

Navasota plays at Brenham Tuesday.
