BASKETBALL

Consol girls keep playoff hopes alive: KILLEEN -- The A&M Consolidated girls basketball team edged last-place Killeen Shoemaker 50-46 on Friday night in District 12-5A action.

Senior center Karla Gilbert scored 16 points and grabbed 18 rebounds for the Lady Tigers. Tierra Tucker added 12 points and five rebounds for Consol.

Consol (11-16) improved to 5-6 in District 12-5A, while Shoemaker (6-20) dropped to 0-11 in league action. The Lady Tigers trail fourth-place Killeen Ellison (23-7, 7-4) by two games with three games left in the regular season.

The top four teams from the league will advance to the playoffs.

Consol will host district leader Bryan at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Rudder boys win on the road: TAYLOR -- The Rudder boys basketball team did its most damage in the fourth period, outscoring Taylor 18-6 en route to a 71-50 victory Friday night in District 24-3A action.

Marquis Taylor led the Rangers with 20 points, followed by Reginal Lawson's 13 and Domonique Robison's 10.

Bryan boys open district with win: COPPERAS COVE -- Bryan's boys opened District 12-5A action Friday night with a 4-1 victory over Copperas Cove.

Fabian Guerrero scored two goals and had two assists for the Vikings. Alex Cruz and Juan Falcon each added a goal, while Jordan Freeman had an assist.

In goal for Bryan was Abel Gutierrez. Adrian Godinez and Jacob Marucci also played strong defense for the Vikings.

Bryan's JV played to a 2-2 tie with Cove. Rene Juarez and Alex Degelman each scored for Bryan. Ignacio Lopez and Julio Lopez were Bryan's goalkeepers.
