BASEBALL

Rudder wins consolation bracket: KILLEEN -- Rudder beat Copperas Cove 15-3 in five innings to win the consolation bracket at the Killeen Shoemaker Tournament on Saturday.

Rudder's Tyler Matcek came in in relief in the third inning and picked up the win. Blake Kapetski and Kyle Danford each homered and doubled, while Kapetski had three RBIs and Danford had four.

Rudder will open District 24-3A by hosting Caldwell at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Bryan falls in tournament championship: BRENHAM -- The Bryan baseball team won four games in Montgomery to reach the tournament championship in Brenham but fell to Houston Lamar 12-2 in the title game.

Jacob Huckabay had a double and two RBIs to lead the Vikings (8-3-1).

Bryan will meet Klein Collins in the College Park Tournament on Thursday.

Tigers shut out by Tomball: CONROE -- The A&M Consolidated baseball team lost to Tomball 3-0 in the Conroe Tournament on Saturday.

Kevin Bishop (2-1) pitched all seven innings for the Tigers (7-3) and was 2-for-2 batting.

Consol will play at Elgin at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

BASKETBALL

Senior women's basketball teams looking for players: The Ag Silvers are looking for players to help fill out rosters for their 60- to 64-year-old, 65-69 and 70-plus women's basketball teams, which are preparing for the Brazos Valley Senior Games on April 22-May 2.

The teams have three weekly practice times: 5 p.m. Mondays at Neal Elementary School, 6:15 p.m. Wednesdays at the Lincoln Center and 9:30 a.m. Thursdays at Aerofit on Villa Maria.

SOCCER

Consol girls blank Temple: On a direct kick in the 76th minute, the ball deflected off the wall of defenders and Emily Smith headed it in for the only goal in the Lady Tigers' 1-0 victory over Temple on Friday.

Megan Eikenhorst was in goal for Consol, which claimed its 12th shutout of the season.

Consol's JV (9-0-1) finished in a 0-0 tie with Temple.

Consol (15-5-1, 10-0-1) will face Bryan at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Merrill Green Stadium.

SOFTBALL

Rudder opens district with win: NAVASOTA -- The Rudder softball team opened its District 24-3A campaign with a 6-4 victory over Navasota on Friday night.

Brittany Bledsoe improved to 3-5 with the win. Hillary Hoffman went 3 for 4 with two doubles.

Rudder (3-10, 1-0) will host Caldwell at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
