Consol blanks Huntsville in tournament: CONROE -- Chase Miller threw a two-hitter and Kevin Bishop hit a grand slam to lead A&M Consolidated past Huntsville 10-0 in six innings at the Conroe Tournament on Friday.

Consol (7-2) will face Tomball at The Woodlands College Park at 11 a.m. Saturday.

Bryan to face Lamar in championship: MONTGOMERY -- The Bryan baseball team beat Little Cypress Mauriceville 5-2 and Montgomery 11-2 on Friday to earn a spot in the championship game of the Brenham-Montgomery Tournament.

Bryan will face Lamar at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in Brenham for the title.

BASKETBALL

Burton in regional championship: AUSTIN -- The Burton boys basketball team advanced to the Class A Division II Region IV championship with a 51-42 victory over San Isidro on Friday at the Delco Center.

Burton (24-7) will play 11th-ranked Leggett at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the Delco Center. San Isidro ended its season at 20-6.

Leggett, which beat Calvert in the regional quarterfinals, advanced by beating Knippa 70-62.

GOLF

Consol leads Invitational going into Saturday: The A&M Consolidated girls golf team leads the Lady Tiger Invitational after one day of play. Consol shot a 320 to lead Allen's 327, followed by Southlake-Carroll's 328 and Lake Travis' 329.

Consol's Casey Grice leads all individuals after a 1-under 71. San Antonio MacArthur's Chaslyn Bratcher is second at 73, and Chelsea Bretcher of Lake Travis is third at 75.

Play will continue at the Pebble Creek Country Club on Saturday at 8:30 a.m.

SOCCER

Bryan defense key in win over Ellison: The Bryan boys soccer team built a first-half lead and held on for a 2-1 victory over Killeen Ellison on Friday in District 12-5A action.

Bryan's Jordan Freeman and Alex Cruz scored goals, while Cruz had an assist. Abel Gutierrez was in goal for Bryan, which improved to 6-5 in league play.

Bryan's JV also defeated Ellison 2-0 on two goals by Aaron Rodriguez.

Bryan will travel to Tigerland Stadium to face A&M Consolidated at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Consol girls blank Temple: On a direct kick in the 76th minute, the ball deflected off the wall of defenders and Emily Smith headed it in for the only goal in the Lady Tigers' 1-0 victory over Temple on Friday.

Megan Eikenhorst was in goal for Consol (15-5-1), which claimed its 12th shutout of the season.

Consol's JV (9-0-1) finished in a 0-0 tie with Temple.

Consol (15-5-1, 10-0-1) will face Bryan at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Merrill Green Stadium.

SOFTBALL

Bryan splits pair on Friday: MISSOURI CITY -- The Bryan Lady Vikings split a couple of 5-4 decisions Friday at the Fort Bend Elkins Tournament, losing to Denton Ryan before rebounding with a seventh-inning rally against Katy Taylor.

In the win over Katy Taylor, Reagan Boenker's single scored Jennifer Kasper to give Bryan a 4-3 lead. After Taylor tied the game in the top of the seventh, Ashley Lara tripled to score Patty Gorzycki to win the game.

On Thursday, Bryan beat Texas City 2-0 and lost to Clear Creek 2-0.

Bryan will face No. 4 Montgomery at 1 p.m. Saturday and No. 7 Houston Bellaire at 3 p.m. in the tournament.

Allen Academy netters fare well at Madisonville: Allen Academy's Grace Hines won the girls singles division at the Madisonville Tennis Tournament on Thursday. Peng Yang was second.

Allen Academy's consolation winners were Jack Guo in boys singles and Numan Darhani and Tampeixan Rui in mixed doubles.
