BASEBALL

Alexandria, La., joins Texas Collegiate League: The Alexandria Aces are the latest addition to the Texas Collegiate League, increasing the league total to seven teams and becoming the first team not based in Texas to join the league.

"We couldn't be happier that the Aces are joining the TCL," said league president Uri Geva. "Alexandria, La., is an excellent market and the Aces bring a great reputation, making the franchise a strong addition to the Texas Collegiate League."

Unlike the previous four teams to join the TCL as expansion franchises, the Aces are an existing organization. The original Aces squad began play in 1934, a year after Bringhurst Field was built. The modern Aces began play in 1994 and have played in several different independent professional leagues.
