Bryan baseball team wins opener: MAGNOLIA -- The Bryan baseball team opened its season with a 6-3 victory over Magnolia West on Tuesday.

Bryan starter Carson Bohler gave up three runs in the first inning but settled down to keep the Vikings in the game. The Bryan bullpen then combined for more than four scoreless innings and 11 strikeouts.

Austin Gallego went 2-for-2 for the Vikings with two walks, and Colin Fry and Chandler Russell each had a double.

Bryan (1-0) will host Willis in the Bryan tournament at 7 p.m. Thursday.

BASKETBALL

Brenham 67, Huntsville 60: NAVASOTA -- Darrion Johnson scored 22 points to lead the Brenham Cubs to a 67-60 Class 4A bi-district victory over the Huntsville Hornets on Monday night at Navasota High School.

Tremund Moore added 19 points for Brenham, which will play the winner of Beaumont Central vs. C.E. King in the area round.

Kaleb Branch led Huntsville (11-19) with 16 points and Kriston Miner with 15.

Flatonia 56, Iola 34: BASTROP -- The Iola girls basketball team struggled offensively Tuesday in falling to Flatonia in the Class A Division I regional quarterfinals 56-34 in Bastrop.

Alex Bruns led Flatonia with 18 points and Tanner Williams had 12. Iola had nobody in double figures.

Flatonia (23-10) will face the winner of the Falls City-Mason game in the Region IV-A Division I Tournament at New Braunfels Canyon High School on Friday.

Iola's season ends at 18-7.

Waelder 57, Dime Box 48: COLUMBUS -- A 20-point performance by Marco Liscano was not enough for the Dime Box Longhorns to advance as they suffered a 57-48 loss to Waelder in the Class A Division II bi-district playoffs Tuesday night.

Dime Box put together a 9-2 run in the fourth quarter to cut Waelder's lead to 43-41, but Waelder finished on a 14-7 run to clinch the victory.

Waelder's Tiburcio Blanton led all scorers with 24 points.

Dime Box's Kyle Rivers had 10 points and 16 rebounds, and Christopher Christmas chipped in 13 points.

Tuesday's game was the final contest for Dime Box seniors Liscano and Rivers.

MISCELLANEOUS

Swimming and diving, wrestling championships to broadcast online: FOX Sports Southwest and FOX Sports Houston will provide live webcasts of the UIL state championships on Saturday in swimming and diving and wrestling.

Fans can watch the internet broadcasts on FoxSportsSouthwest.com and FoxSportsHouston.com by clicking on the UIL championship banners located on the home page. Saturday's live web stream will begin at 9 a.m. with the swimming and diving finals from the University of Texas' Jamail Texas Swim Center. The wrestling webcast will start at 3 p.m. with boys and girls championship matches from the Austin ISD Delco Center.

FOX Sports Southwest and FOX Sports Houston also will televise 30-minute UIL Championship Spotlight recap shows featuring highlights and results from the two state meets.

Bryan loses tough district match on road: BELTON -- Bryan's Brittany Little scored 18 seconds into the match Tuesday against Belton, but Belton answered just 30 seconds later and cruised to a 5-1 victory over the Lady Vikings in District 12-5A action.

Bryan (11-5-1, 2-3-1) will host Temple at 6 p.m. Friday.

Bryan drops first league game: Belton scored the game's only goal with 15 minutes remaining Tuesday to hand the Bryan boys soccer team its first District 12-5A loss 1-0.

The Vikings JV team played to a 1-1 draw.

Bryan (11-4-2, 4-1-1) will play at Temple at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Rudder beats Waller in shootout: After finishing regulation and overtime in a 3-3 draw Tuesday, the Rudder girls soccer team defeated Waller 2-0 in a shootout.

Ashley Atkins had a hat trick, scoring all three of the Lady Rangers' goals. Jenna Galliher and Atkins scored the goals for Rudder in the shootout.

Bianca Amador was in goal for Rudder, stopping every attempt in the shootout.

The Lady Rangers (6-4-2, 4-1 in 16-4A) will host Magnolia on Friday.

Consol girls blank Harker Heights: The A&M Consolidated girls soccer team stayed perfect in District 12-5A play with a 2-0 victory over Harker Heights on Tuesday night

Carolina Orsi scored both goals for the Lady Tigers (11-3-3, 6-0) with assists from Kalli Krivdo and Courtney Rogers. Christina Salas and Clare McDougall split time in the goal for Consol's 12th shutout of the season.

Consol's JV Silver team won 6-0 with goals from Shayleigh Vinson, Megan Lewis, Kourtney Graff and Julia Edrington.

Consol will host Belton on Friday, with the JV Silver team set to start at 5 p.m.

Consol boys remain unbeaten in district: The A&M Consolidated boys soccer team beat Harker Heights 4-2 on Tuesday in District 12-5A action.

Consol (8-4-3, 5-0-1) trailed 2-1 at the end of the first half but tied the match on Daniel Zivney's goal 5 minutes into the second half.

Yanni Georghiades, Camilo Clavijo, and Colby Graff scored goals for Consol, and Kyle Duncan had five saves at goal-keeper.

Consol will play at Belton at 5 p.m. Friday.

SOFTBALL

Rudder opens district play with run-rule: The Rudder softball team defeated Pflugerville Connally 12-1 in six innings Tuesday to open District 16-4A action.

Haley Parker got the win for Rudder, pitching all six innings.

Kayla Emery had a double and three RBIs in the win. Hilary Hoffman had a triple and added two RBIs.

The Lady Rangers will host Bastrop at 7 p.m. Friday.
