The Bryan Harvey 10- & 11-year-old baseball team and a pair of Washington County softball teams moved into championship games with victories Sunday night at the Section 1 Texas East Tournament at Weedon Ballpark.

Harvey grabbed a 14-4 victory over Elgin behind the pitching of Mason Ray and two-run homers by Leon Denena, Cody Collins and Landon Miner.

Harvey will play again at 7 p.m. Tuesday for a chance to advance to the Texas East State Championship in Tyler. Elgin will play Tyler's Rose Capital East Little League American in the losers' bracket finale at 7 p.m. Monday. Rose Capital East grabbed a 23-18 victory over Western Hills with a five-run sixth in the division's other Sunday game.

Washington County's Major League softball team grabbed a 10-2 victory over Bryan United in another winners' bracket finale Sunday.

Washington County also advances to a 7 p.m. Tuesday title game back at Weedon Ballpark. Bryan United will play Elgin at 7 p.m. Monday in the losers' bracket finale. Elgin advanced with a 16-0 four-inning victory over Montopolis of Austin.

Washington County's Junior League team cruised to a 15-3 victory over Smithville in Sunday's other winners' bracket finale. Smithville will play Bryan United at 7 p.m. Monday in the losers' bracket finale. The title game in Junior League will be 6 p.m. Tuesday with a second game, if needed, to follow. That's the only division that that could have two games Tuesday.

Junior Boys

Harvey batted around in a seven-run third inning to break open a close game, then batted around again in the fourth.

Minor's long bases-loaded single to left-center field in the bottom of the fifth knocked in a run to end the game via the 10-run rule. The game ended at 11:15 p.m., but it didn't start until 9:25 p.m. because of the wild elimination game between Tyler and Western Hills that was 18-17 entering the final inning.

The large contingent of Harvey fans who waited around saw plenty of hitting after two quick innings.

Harvey parlayed Jake Fuller's leadoff triple into a 1-0 lead, which looked precarious when Elgin loaded the bases in the third, but No. 4 hitting Tanner Sonn popped up on the first pitch from Ray.

That's when the Harvey bats took over.

Miner singled and right-handed hitting Denena lined a shot over the right-field fence to start the third. Dylan Boyd singled with one out and Cody Collins doubled. Ryan Scamardo reached on an infield single and earned a second run batted in on the play when a hustling Collins beat the throw home. Kolby Kubicek singled and Ray doubled to chase Elgin starting pitcher Jack Meads. Miner greeted the reliever with an RBI double to make it 8-0.

At that point, Harvey had outscored the opposition 36-0 in three Sectional games, but Elgin fought back with four hits of its own in the top of the fourth. Cameron Pena and Michael McCarty each had two-run singles.

Harvey answered with five runs when it came to bat in the fourth.

Miner and Collins each had booming two-run homers among six hits. Elgin used a pair of pitching chances to earn another at-bat as Harvey left the bases loaded, failing to end the game on the run rule. Fuller, the team's third pitcher, struck out two in the fifth inning to make sure Elgin didn't get any closer.

Elgin made another pitching change in the fifth trying to get another at-bat, but Miner spoiled the plan with his fourth hit.

Ray struck out six in two hitless innings.

Harvey, the District 33 champ, advanced to the winners' bracket finale with a four-inning 11-0 victory over Western Hills on Saturday night behind the pitching and hitting of Minor.

Minor struck out seven and had a two-run double. Denena had two singles and knocked in three runs. Triola added a double, single and two RBIs. Myles Martinez and Kubichek each had two singles. Adding a single each were Collins, Ray, Scarmardo, Fuller and Dylan Boyd.

Major Softball

Washington County used short hits and long hits to back the pitching of Macie Becker.

Five of the first 10 Washington County batters bunted helping it to a 6-0 lead. Shannon Loukanis had a two-run single in the first after Lauren Winkelmann's leadoff bunt single got things rolling. Sloan Wellmann's double started Washington County's second. Madison Tomachuefsey, Winkelmann and Hanna Schwartz followed with bunts, two of them good for hits. Jordan Wellmann followed with an RBI single to left and Autumn Pauler doubled in another.

Bryan United, which is made up of players formerly from Bryan West and Bryan North, bounced back with two runs in the fourth. Deshay Sauseda walked between singles by Alissa Reyes and Melanie Savala to load the bases.

A groundout by Rebecca Delgado and a wild pitch brought in the runs.

Becker added a two-run single in the fourth for Washington County to push the lead back to 9-2. Hits by Jordan Wellmann and Pauler in the fifth helped score the game's last run.

United's Sauseda tripled to start the sixth and Savala walked, but Washington County turned Audriana Andrade's line drive into a rally-killing double play.
