College Station used one huge inning and a big performance by Bryce Linder to defeat Elgin 7-3 in the Texas East Section I baseball tournament for 9- and 10-year-olds Friday night.

District 33 champion College Station will return to Weedon Ballpark to face District 13 representative Columbus at 8 p.m. Saturday for a spot in the winners' bracket final.

Elgin, the champion of District 30, will play an elimination game at 6 p.m. Saturday against the loser of Friday's second game between Western Hills of Austin and Rose City West American.

The all-stars from College Station rolled through the district tournament without a loss, seldom if ever showing any playoff jitters. However, the local team got off to a shaky start in the sectional opener, which began in a steady drizzle.

Elgin scored single runs in each of the first three innings, with College Station committing an error in each frame. At the plate, College Station's hitters struggled against pitchers who did not throw as hard as some from the district tourney.

Linder, the third College Station pitcher, faced only six batters while holding Elgin hitless in the fourth and fifth innings. Third baseman Kaiden Halley and catcher Brandon Williams made Linder's job easier with good defensive plays.

College Station scored all seven runs in the fourth inning. Luke Brock and Linder started the rally with singles before two walks forced in a run. Williams laced a two-run double into right-center to make it 3-3. Kaleb Camp hustled home with the go-ahead run on wild pitch, and College Station added runs on a bases-loaded walk, another single by Linder and a fielding error.

Camp replaced Linder on the mound in the sixth, getting the first two outs with help from a nice defensive play by shortstop Zach Williams. Elgin loaded the bases, but Zach Williams earned a save with a game-ending strikeout.

Linder went 2 for 2 to lead College Station's seven-hit attack. Other hits came from Chase Allen, Jordan Bellows and Halley.

Elgin managed four hits, two apiece by Jacob Harkins and David Perez. Third baseman Harkins and shortstop Jace Grady led the Elgin defense.

Harvey Major Boys roll: AUSTIN -- The Bryan Harvey Major Boys All-Stars had no trouble in their opening sectional game, defeating host Northwest Little League, 17-3.

Harvey will continue the Texas East Section I tournament for 11- and 12-year-olds by facing Rose City West American at 8 p.m. Saturday.

Cody Collins had three hits and belted two of Harvey's five home runs. Dylan Boyd, Kolby Kubichek and Landon Miner also homered. Leon Denena had a double among his three hits, while Myles Martinez added three singles.

Mason Ray pitched 2 1/3 innings for the win. Travis Triola, Kubichek and Jake Fuller each pitched at least one inning.
