College Station and Bryan National saved the best for last in the District 33 baseball tournament for 9- and 10-year-olds, and it was highly entertaining.

Right fielder Kaleb Camp made a nice running catch just inside the foul line with the bases loaded for the final out as College Station held on to beat National 7-5 at Bob Bond Park on Sunday night.

College Station took advantage of a first-round bye to capture district with three victories that lifted them into the Texas East Section 1 tournament to be hosted by Bryan Harvey. College Station will play District 30 champion Elgin at 6 p.m. Friday.

National went 3-2 in the all-star playoffs, with both losses against College Station.

More than halfway through Sunday's rematch, National was in position to force a second title game Monday. The Bryan boys carried a 5-3 lead into the bottom of the fifth thanks to a valiant effort by starting pitcher Colton Bledsoe and some outstanding defense.

However, brothers Zach and Brandon Williams lifted College Station to a tie in two at-bats. Zach smacked a one-out single to left and then Brandon crushed a home run that hit a truck parked beyond the center field fence to make it 5-5.

Chase Allen followed with an infield single and College Station added two more runs on a walk and a couple of wild pitches.

The drama wasn't over. In the top of the sixth National loaded the bases on a hit batter and a pair of two-out walks. Zakhary Gamboa lifted a high fly to medium right field that would have at least tied the game had it fallen, but Camp gathered it in a step or two in fair territory.

It was a fitting end to the closest, most competitive game of the six-team tourney.

National grabbed the lead a couple of times, scoring twice in the top of the first and getting two runs in the fourth for a 5-3 lead. Cleanup hitter Peyton Todd delivered RBI singles in each of the first two innings and finished with three hits.

Matt Salvaggio gave National a 5-3 advantage when he pulled a double just inside third base to drive in two runs.

College Station took advantage of a walk and two errors to grab a 3-2 lead after one inning, but Bledsoe and his defensive players did not allow a run over the next three frames. College Station pitchers threw quite a bit harder than Bledsoe, but he kept the hitters off-balance and got good glove work from center fielder Billy Schweinbraten, left fielder Charlie Fisher, third baseman Ethan Guajardo and second baseman Gamboa.

National finished with a 9-5 edge in hits, getting one apiece from Carlos Munoz, Anil Schwartz, Gamboa, Fisher and Schweinbraten.

Zach Williams, the fourth pitcher for College Station, earned the win with two hitless innings. College Station got good defensive plays from second baseman Bryce Linder, shortstop Keis Coronado and first baseman Jordan Bellows.

Brandon Williams led the offense by going 2 for 3 with three runs batted in. Bellows had the other hit for College Station.
