In one quick burst, the Victoria Generals stole every bit of momentum the Brazos Valley Bombers had built up through six innings. Two innings later, the Bombers reclaimed it emphatically, winning 7-3 at Brazos Valley Bank Ballpark to remain alive in the TCL playoff chase.

The Bombers climbed into a tie with the Generals at 28-30, turning Thursday's 7:05 p.m. regular season finale at BVB Ballpark into a winner-take-all contest for the league's final playoff spot.

Bombers starter Jameson Holt came unwound in the top of the seventh inning, giving up the first two Victoria runs -- including a leadoff home run by Ryan Dalton -- after allowing just one hit through six innings.

Following Dalton's homer, Trace Knoblauch singled then took second on an error by center fielder Greg Olson, whose charge on the ball was less than aggressive. Reliever Geoff Lomax's start then proved just as shaky as Holt's exit.

Trent Wagner laid down a sacrifice bunt towards third base that Lomax fielded. After checking third for Knoblauch, who was already sliding into the bag, Lomax rushed his throw to first and sent it soaring over Jacob House's head. Knoblauch scrambled home to tie the game at 2.

After Wagner reached third on a throwing error by Scott Arthur, John Longoria singled to give Victoria the 3-2 lead.

Brazos Valley responded, however.

Arthur led off with a single and reached second on a fielder's choice groundout by Trey Porras. Arthur took third on a wild pitch, and two batters later, Brennyn Smith reached on an error by Victoria shortstop Chad Kruse, and Arthur scored to tie the game at 3.

Lomax, who earned the victory, settled down and retired the side in order in the top of the eighth, and the Bombers' offense took over.

John Cannon led off the bottom of the eighth with a walk and took second on a wild pitch. Kevin Wirth also walked, and the two pulled off a double-steal. Herb Romero then laid down a squeeze bunt to drive home Cannon for the 4-3 lead.

With two outs, Porras walked and House followed with a single to right field, allowing Wirth to score and Porras to take third. House then took off for second but stopped halfway to allow Porras to head home. Victoria spotted Porras making his move and threw home, but Porras slid head-first safely under the tag of catcher Tres Tyler. Christian Soberanes drove in House on a double to end the rally.

Brazos Valley opened the scoring in the first when House drove in his Texas A&M teammate, Arthur, on a single. Arthur reached on a single before stealing second base.

In the third inning, Soberanes walked and stole second before Cannon scored him on a single.
