The Brazos Valley Bombers came up just short of a monumental comeback against the Coppell Copperheads in Game 1 of the TCL championship series.

The Copperheads jumped out to an early 9-0 lead only to watch it disappear as the Bombers scored six runs in the sixth inning. It would not prove to be enough as the Copperheads were able to close out a 12-7 victory and earn a 1-0 series lead.

The two teams traded scoreless innings until the top of the third when the Copperheads scored three runs on five hits, leading to an early 3-0 lead.

The Copperheads' offense would not let up as they continued to score, adding two runs in the fourth inning and four more runs in the fifth for a 9-0 lead.

The Bombers would rally in the sixth inning for six runs, five of which came with two outs, and four of the runs crossing the plate off walks. The Bombers would add another run in the seventh before their offensive wheels would fall off.

Brazos Valley starter Josh Dean went four innings allowing eight hits and eight runs with five walks.

With a depleted bullpen the Bombers were forced to warm up Kevin Wirth who started the game at second base. Wirth came onto the mound in the sixth inning, shutting down the Copperheads for the most-part. He allowed four hits and three runs to close out the game for the Bombers.

The Bombers were led offensively by left fielder Trey Porras who was 4-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored. Both Jacob House and Herb Romero had two hits for the Bombers.

Game 2 is set for 7:05 p.m. Tuesday at Brazos Valley Bank Ballpark and admission to the game will be free for all fans.
