St. Joseph to compete at state track meet

The St. Joseph track and field team will send two individuals and a relay team to the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools state meet to be held Friday and Saturday in Waco.


Ben Rios qualified in two events for St. Joseph. He won the regional title in the long jump with a leap of 19-6 in Halletsville last month. Rios also runs the anchor leg on the Eagles' 400-meter relay team headed to the state meet at Baylor's Hart-Patterson Track Complex.


Ashley Stonecipher will represent St. Joseph in the 200 meters. She finished second in the regional meet with a time of 27.88.


The Eagles 400 relay team consists of Justin Knight, Tate Brightwell, Nicky Damong and Rios. They finished third at the regional meet with a time of 45.78. The same group won the District 3-3A championship in 46.39 seconds.


Other St. Joseph athletes who placed at the regional meet include Justin Knight (fifth in 100 meters), Claudia O'Connell (third in 300 hurdles) and John Koch (fifth in long jump).
