Local players make all-district soccer

A&M Consolidated junior Christina Salas was selected as the MVP Goal Keeper to lead the Lady Tigers' representatives on the District 12-5A all-district soccer team.
On the boys team, Bryan forward Fabian Guerrero was selected as District 12-5A Offensive MVP. Senior defender Bin Her of Consolidated shared Defensive MVP honors with Garret Patterson of district champion Belton.
The Lady Tigers, who shared the league championship with Belton, landed six players on the first team. Consol's selections to the top squad are seniors Morgan Leigh, Avery Burns and Katie Berlund, juniors Blake Martin and Salas, along with freshman Mycah Miller.
Bryan placed two girls on the first team, sophomores Brittany Little and Jamie Thompson. Lady Viking seniors Jesica Chicas and Iliana Rodriguez made the second team, while Bryan's Kacy Shea and Sarah Shillings, a pair of sophomores, joined freshman Tori Brown in receiving honorable mention.
Consol's second-team picks are seniors Vicky Wilhelm and Morgan Anderson, junior Kalli Krivdo, sophomore Charis Brantley and freshman Ashlynn Ford. Lady Tigers senior Lindsay Allen earned honorable mention.
The 12-5A coaches chose Carina Dunnahoo, a senior from Belton, as the district MVP. Belton junior Hadley Young was named Offensive MVP, with Temple junior Emily Wylie selected as Defensive MVP. Fourth-place Copperas Cove landed the Coach of the Year, Hagen Streckel, and the Newcomer of the Year in freshman Shelbie Letzer.
Bryan's boys put four seniors on the first team: defender Cesario Vasquez, forward Alex Crus, defender Jose Vega and midfielder Guerrero.
The Tigers had three players earn first-team accolades: senior midfielder Nicos Georghiades, senior defender Jordan Jeter and junior forward Kolby Graff.
Consol selections to the second team are sophomore forward Yanni Georghiades, sophomore midfielder Brandon O'Donovan and junior midfielder Austen McDougal.
Bryan's players on the second unit are all juniors -- forward Eduardo Garcia, midfielder Arnoldo Garcia, midfielder Jordan Freeman and goal keeper Abel Gutierrez.
The honorable mention list includes sophomore Jose Falcon and juniors Joey Wilder and Jose Cortes of Bryan, along with Consol juniors Kyle Duncan and Ryan Bruffett, plus sophomore Shay Williams.
Senior forward Tayron Martin of Belton was chosen as the MVP, while Nicholas Merutka of Harker Heights was the MVP Goal Keeper and freshmen Nathan Diederich of Killeen Ellison and Jonathan Chavez of Temple shared Newcomer of the Year honors. The Coach of the Year was Cizo Mosnia of champion Belton.
