Brazos Valley sending large contingent to Texas Relays
The 84th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays will welcome one of its largest Brazos Valley contingents when high school competition begins Friday at the University of Texas' Mike A. Myers Stadium.
The Cameron Yoe girls will send three relay teams to the competition. The A&M Consolidated girls and Brenham boys will take part in relays that will not be contested during the UIL postseason meets.
Consol's Lady Tigers are scheduled to run the sprint medley relay. The Brenham Cubs plan to compete in the 3,200 relay. It is called the Texas Relays for a reason. Those events are the highlights each year.

While Class A began holding district meets this week, all other classifications will hold them next week.
For Classes 2A-5A, district marks the first step in the three-level climb to the UIL Track & Field Championships. The top three finishers in each event in district will move on to their respective regional track meets set for May 2-3, when Class A also will hold its regionals.
Weather problems in past years forced postponements of Friday-Saturday regional track meets, which led to the events being rescheduled on Monday-Tuesday like this year's regionals. While the UIL has not said it made the change to Monday-Tuesday because of those past rainouts, it may have found a format it likes. A rainout now will push events deeper into the same week rather than forcing schools -- by "schools" we mean student-athletes, trainers, coaches, parents and, of course, bus drivers -- to reschedule the next week.
This season's schedule also allows the regional track meets to avoid a conflict with TAKS testing, which will be conducted the previous week.
