Regional swimming set for Monday

The A&M Consolidated girls will begin defense of their Class 5A Region III swimming and diving championship at 1 p.m. Monday at the Mansfield ISD Natatorium.

Diving finals will be held at 9 a.m. Tuesday, and the swimming finals are scheduled for 1 p.m.

The meet was originally scheduled to begin Friday but was postponed because of weather conditions.

Consol junior Robyn Miller is the favorite in the girls 200-yard freestyle, having posted the best time of 1 minute, 56.55 seconds among the competitors in the meet. Miller also leads the way in the 100 breaststroke (1:07.88).

Consol has the top time in the girls 200 medley relay (1:53.69) and the 200 freestyle relay (1:42.35).

In her first high school regional competition, Bryan junior Haley Clark has posted the fastest times in the 50 freestyle (24.28) and in the 100 butterfly (58.20),

In boys competition, the Tigers' Hayden Duplechain has a region-best time of 1:55.86 in the 200 intermediate medley, over 5.5 seconds faster than any other swimmer in the meet. Duplechain's time of 1:00.23 leads the 100 breaststroke.

The Consol boys 200 freestyle team has a region-best time of 1:31.83.
